I was handed down what I'm guessing is a turkey gun. Its a Remington 1100 mag. 30" barrel and can only chamber 3.5" shells. It also has a fixed full choke.

My question is would I be able to swap out for a 2 3/4 vented 26" barrel?

I think your issue will be the action/bolt not the barrel. The action is longer to allow for ejection of the 3.5" shells I may be wrong.

You should be able to swap….3 1/2” chambered guns candle handle that and others down to 2 3/4”, maybe shorter.

I talked with a gunsmith one time that I now somewhat remember him saying something like this. May need to make a few calls

I tried. I guess Remington now has 2 different separate divisions. One for ammunition and one for arms. I submitted a request but haven't heard back.

I have since called 3 gunsmiths here in DFW and no one has a definite answer. Luckily my FIL has a regular 1100 so this weekend we are going to at least swap out and see if it will chamber a 2 3/4.

and most forums I've googled have a lot of mixed answers. GRRRRRR

Remington never made a 1100 that shot 3.5” shells
They came in 2 3/4” only and 3”
The 30” barrel is a full choke
28” is modified
26” is improved cylinder
This is for non removable choke tubes.

There was a 870 super mag that has a extra wide slot, and a small sliding door to cover the extra room required for them 3.5” monsters..

There was also a 1187 version of the 3.5” super mag.

Please verify what you have before you light a 3.5” mag off..

youre probably right and my apologies if I am wrong. I was handed down multiple arms with some having none or little knowledge of my grandfather even having them. So this past weekend was a big introduction into those arms with a lot of information to take in. It looks like it very well could be just a 3' mag. I will confirm this evening. Sorry for jumping ahead to get information
