Let me set the stage. I’ve got 3 kids and our house is the spot where all the neighborhood kids come over to play. It’s not uncommon to have 5-7 visitors over in the afternoons. I’ve got a 1 year old GSP that’s fresh back from training in KS. She did well. Now that she’s back, she waits by the back door to get inside. Once she’s in, she waits by the front door for someone to leave it open for a second and she bolts. When she goes, she goes hard. My wife miraculously caught her 3/4 of a mile from the house Saturday just before she got on Big Spring/349 (that would have been the end of her)

I bought a PetSafe wireless fence that I’m training her on, but the perimeter cuts off about 1/2 of the back yard. I’m worried the collar might mess with her training.

Do y’all have any advice on training tactics to keep her from running off? If she’s hunting, she minds really well, but collar free and out in the hood, she comes untrained.

Would a perimeter fence harm her training (keep her from ranging when she’s hunting)

I would go with kennel, or crate her in the evenings till you work on her door manners.
From your post she has just came back from training. I would guess she’s been conditioned to a ecollar. Why not train her to stand at a door, until released to go in, or out. Practice on a leash first, then overlap the training with the ecollar.
I would also do the same with the Here command, that she should have already learned at training.
She’s just thinking the same rules do not apply at home.

I agree. She needs home training. Don't let her go through any door without permission.

She just needs a little more electricity in her life. I assume she knows what no means.

Obedience training in the yard to include a reliable recall. A covered kennel that will contain her. I don’t have enough faith in an e-fence to trust my bird dog to one. I’ve seen more than one [censored] their head knowing what is coming and Yelp as they run through it when they are ready to go.

Talk to your trainer. (He will have recommendations on how much electricity to use). Put a collar on her and reinforce whoa.

That dog shouldn’t be collar free anytime she’s out of the kennel until she starts listening. She needs to be taught not to go through a door until told. She should also know what HERE and WHOA mean if someone e has trained her. I also would not trust an underground fence. Like Smokey said pour a slab and get a kennel. You will be glad you did.

That dog will listen and mind if you keep a collar on her and she has been properly trained. It sounds like it’s dangerous for her to be out without the shock collar. Get control of her and everyone will be happier.

We once called the E-collar an attitude adjustment tool.

Thank y’all. I put the shock collar I use on my labs on her for some obedience. We’ve got work to do. She won’t be allowed through a door without permission from now on!

Here is what I did, but I started this as day one as a puppy. On leash at every door I stopped and said "wait" then walk through the door. When the dog walks through the door with me, I picked him up, put him back, and say wait. Single command. Repeat the act as many times as it takes until he stays at the door. No matter how frustrating the first sessions get, you have to keep your cool and just keep repeating. The first times I had to be quick to end on a positive. Repeat often and at every doorway for as many days as it takes. Once the dog will wait on command I introduce "ok" to be released to walk through the door. The dog is never allowed to walk through any door without an "ok". Then I remove the verbal "wait" command and the dog must stop at every doorway until he gets an "ok". When he does not stop without verbal command, again pick him up and put him back until he does. Then without leash until that is covered. Then with me walking away and out of sight leaving the dog waiting at the door and returning to say "ok". Then make those times take longer and longer. Then make it really tough setting up stings to catch him on breaking due to various distractions. I also added a tap on the head as a substitute for a verbal ok. Though not necessary for this, my Vizsla was conditioned for clicker training and with me using it he had the basic goal mastered in three days. With distractions took longer. That Vizsla now at 9 years old I let do whatever he wants, but he still usually stops at doors if at heel and it even annoys me because I often forget to say ok and have to go back to release him. In his old age I would prefer the stopping at every door on his own just go away. He behaves well enough and I can still stop him at any door every time with "wait" whenever needed.

I had some of those same issues with my Pointer.
The Pet Safe fence and a good training collar will help you out.
