Well, I finally got to cutting last Friday about a week later than I wanted to and got it rolled up.
Crazy what good rainfall and fertilizer will do.
60 nice, tight round bales off of 12 acres of great native coastal.

109 rounds and 256 squares made so far this year off those 12 acres. Thank you Lord!

The John Deere 535 sure makes a good, tight bale still.

Roll them while you can. We are all behind. I'm about 1200 bales shy of where I was last year at this time. Cutting in morning.

Have a 535 for backup. 566 now with netwrap.. no more twine for me.[Linked Image]

Wrong amigo, you cant see the other 70 acres. I bale around 450 acres a year. At least twice and hope for 3 times.

Be happy, lots of folks are only going to get one cutting, army worms got the rest of the grass in East Texas.

Don't worry brother, I'll take some scissors out there and trim em all up purdy! lmao
As funny as that is, my grandpa used to walk his 100 acre milo field and literally cut off the heads that shot way above the rest of the heads. Talk about being a little bit anal retentive.

I hear ya man.
Hopefully you will get the late summer and fall rains and make a great 3rd cutting to get you up to where you should be.
I'm loving it because this is by FAR the most I've made the last 5-6 years. Last year I got one very average cutting and rolled up about 35 total for the year.

Thank you very much sir.
That back field with all the trees is getting better and years like this with all the rain added with fertilizer and weed killer is really making it pop.
In fact, I had some grass come in this year I had no idea what the hell it was so I sent a pic to a buddy who's wife has an app that tells her. Turns out it is called Hairy Crab grass and it is supposed to be excellent grass for cattle. I thought I had a problem but I guess it is more of a bonus.

fishfly, I had them BAD about 5-6 weeks ago. I was a week to 10 days from being able to make one hell of a cut and they stripped the 12 acres I cut OVERNIGHT. I actually had to spray them back to back days to get them all killed. They were much smaller than what we usually be but were in it by the millions. Sorry sunsabeotches.

That is fantastic man! This was the first late summer cutting I've gotten in many years. It has been so bad with lack of rain for us that I've only gotten 1 cutting 2 of the last 5 years and 2 cuttings twice and none were all that strong. My best was about 6-7 years ago when I made 506 square bales off of the small field up front. That field is less than 4 acres! My cousin baled for me since I don't own a square baler and he is very meticulous about making good bales and he weighed 10 of them and they averaged just under 60 lbs with the lightest being 57 and heaviest 63.
30k lbs of pure, clean, horse quality coastal off of 3.8 acres is pretty amazing for our area for sure but it did have 300 lbs of fertilizer on it and about 12-14" of rain in September & October! lol

Nothing at all wrong with that tlk! I'd take that any time myself. We've just been very blessed with a lot of timely rains this year and I hit it twice perfectly with the juice.
Had the worms not stripped it so bad 5 or 6 weeks ago this likely would have been the best cutting I've ever gotten

Hey GUTIT, I know the netwrap is very nice and it is VERY fast but honestly...I HATE FEEDING IT!
I had a guy do one of my fields when my baler broke down a couple years ago and he did about 25-30 of them to finish up for me. I just hate the way the grass tangles up in it and the big old wad of mess you get even after shaking it out like a mad man.

I guess I'm just old school and set in my ways.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one wrapped in just a few seconds and kicked out instead of taking 50 seconds to run the double tie across it.

That 535 is a great baler. Rolled many thousands of bales with a 530 and 535.

Helped him haul his last 20 this evening, just a few miles down the road to his other place, if we get some more rain, he may make a 3rd cutting.
