I will pray for you Just kidding. Have fun and enjoy our great state. Hunting here is a lot different than out west, so read up on the regs. They vary a bit from county to county and even in the county at times.

Welcome to our forum and welcome to our great State. Texas is a huge State and the lay of the land will very greatly along with the type and quality of hunting. You will probably find folks on here say some negative things about hunting in East Tx but dont let it get you down. Plenty of great hunting and fishing opportunities. Will be curious to find out about your hunting experiences in Utah when you feel its appropriate.
At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR Keep your gratitude higher than your expectations. RWH

Welcome to the forum and Texas. If you fish, there are some really good Largemouth Bass, Crappie and Catfish lakes near you. Hopefully you will be hunting on the ranch you are working on. Like others have said, get you a Texas Hunting Annual and read it cover to cover. There is a good chance the ranch is MLDP and the folks there can explain how that works. If you are on a lease on non MLDP you need to be aware of the AR (13" Inside Spread) rules, antlerless days and some other stuff. Good luck on your new job and Happy Hunting.

I’m only a few miles outside of Winnsboro as well. It’s a great small town with wonderful people. Very old school and traditional. You should have some great hunting opportunities working on a ranch. Shoot me a PM if you ever have any questions about the area. I love it here. Welcome to Texas.

Thunder, I live in Pittsburg about 15 miles east of Winnsboro. I visit there on a regular basis when I go to the gun club range there. Welcome to Texas. Daniel

You will be living behind the pine curtain. Welcome to the deep south. One of the many regions of Texas.
Great high school football. Tough but occasionally rewarding deer hunting. Lots of good fishing. I've got a lot of family from there - some who would never consider leaving. Also have a lot of west Texas family. It's fascinating to compare the two. Totally different worlds, both great in their own ways. West Texas dust, East Texas rust.

All of my family is from there The only problem I would see is the iron water and the dope heads, but the dopers are everywhere now, so there's no escaping that. At least the water is better than the gyp water west of the metromess, and it's way easier to drill for in Wood county. When I was a kid, Camp county still had a bear season on the books.

Welcome! I never liked east Texas except when I was on the water. I always felt boxed in by the pine trees. If I can’t see a gas plant 20 miles away I get nervous.

'Glad to have you! "East Texas" is a very broad, and often misinterpreted term. Now "Deep East Texas" is a whole 'nother thang. (Don't worry, you're not moving to "Deep East Texas".) And you'll know it, if you ever happen to travel through there.

And you'll know it, if you ever happen to travel through there. ^^^^^This is true. As a resident of 'Deep East Texas' (having moved here from Central Texas) it was indeed a venture in culture shock (and continues to be). VERY different than other parts of East Texas. Despite my Wife's parents being from this area, me having lived here almost 40 years, raised a Daughter here, worked and retired here, I am STILL 'that guy that moved here from Austin'. Hah.......
