Hi, I live in central Texas and I've recently come to admire javelinas. I think they're a very cool/interesting animal and I would love to do a spot and stalk hunt for them in west Texas with my compound bow. Does anyone know where I could do that for an affordable price? I'm only 16 so I can't afford anything expensive. Also, what are some good recipes for javelina?

Welcome to the forum.

They are fun to hunt with a bow or pistol. I wish I could help you with a recommendation on where to hunt them in West Texas.

I can help with a recipe though. Contrary to popular belief javelina are very good eating, especially the younger ones male or female. You just have to be willing to clean them & do so properly. My favorite way to cook them is in a slow cooker (Crock Pot). Score the meat with a knife and dust with Fiesta brand fajita seasoning, chili powder, & Cumin. Then mince up a can or two of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, and rub the meat down good with that. Place in slow cooker. Add one quartered up red onion, one whole head of peeled garlic, 3-4 bay leaves, and just a little bit of pineapple juice & orange juice. The meat and vegetables will produce the rest of the liquid. Cover and cook on Low until fork tender (8-12 hrs typically). Remove meat and shred with two forks. Remove bay leaves and most of the liquid from cooker, return meat. Add more fajita seasoning & cumin to taste, add back just enough juice to keep the meat moist. Toast up some tortillas, dice some white onion & cilantro, slice some limes, add some salsa. Javelina tacos are delicious.

That sounds like a good recipe! I'll be saving a screenshot of that to my phone.
