just finished up a knife for a customer who knife hunts Alligators in Florida
thought i'd share some pictures

specs
O1 tool steel
14 inches overall length
9 inch blade
about 8 3/4 cutting edge
1/4 inch thick at the spine

I have killed a few with a knife. I like it. The only issue I would see is damage from using a hammer. The only way I have been able to break the spine at the base of the head is by starting it by hand, then a strong tap with a 3 lb sledge to break through the spine. Otherwise they will roll around in the boat. I would have asked for it to have a full steel base if it were mine. But it does look strong and heavy enough that I could probably manage the way it is.

i have hammered my knives with a 3 pound sledge into a solid tree stump, and then stood on the blade ( i weigh about 230 ), only change i would make to the
design if i know hammering is required is a perpendicular back end, instead of the angle i put on this one,,, thank you kindly for your input

personally i'd need a little more range than a knife,

Good looking knife Shane but no where near long enough for me to go after a gator with. Maybe a spear would work for me

Great looking knife. One question, why didn’t you add a guard between the handle and blade? For that kind of use I would want something substantial between my hand and the blade.....not a criticism, Jes curious....

great question, i asked the same, he told me guards got in his way,,, he said he uses a lanyard to keep his hand from sliding down the blade
i've textured the g10 and given 2 pretty good finger choils, so if he lanyards up , i don't think his hand is going to be in danger from the knife
now from the gator,,, that is up to things way beyond my control,,,LOL

Don't know about gators, but they can be effective on other animals. I had this hog laying on my tailgate with a bullet through it, and it started squirming pretty active again so.......
