I'm out here working for the rest of the year. Anyone know how deer hunting is on Louisiana public land?

Lot's of deer and hogs on public in LA. Not a lot of wall hangers, and you're never going to have a shot over 100 yards outside right of ways. Tick tick in there. Tensas area is probably the best chance for a big one (LDWF transplanted some Kansas deer there years ago).

I have not tried it. A friend of mine had a lease in LA. He said the price was low, and the hunting was comparable to East TX. I looked at some leases in Arkansas, and some public areas. I then found a TX lease, and did not pursue it further. Unless you are very lucky, I think it would be a meat hunt.

I used to woodcock hunt outside of Baton Rouge,,, dogs pointing woodcock ------- very thick,,, several times I came across deer hunters in a stand (up in a tree) -------- I expected them to be pissed,,, they were glad to see me and my dogs ----- we made the deer move around .

I'm from Louisiana, have hunted several of the public areas. Where are you located? I live in South Louisiana, but north Louisiana WMA hunting is definitely better.
Three Rivers, Tensas are some of the best in the north. Sherburne and Thistlewaite are your best bets in the southern part of the state.
Several WMAs around Alexandria are good hunting with reasonable chances for a shot. Lacassine NWR is archery only , but lots of deer down there.

I'm east of Lake Charles in Iowa. I did sign up for a draw hunt, I believe up by Alexandria, for Dove. I was thinking about going to check that out. Still on the fence. Thanks for the help.

My hunting partner is from Iowa LA, we should be going up there in December. He and his girls did not get drawn for the youth or modern firearm hunt this. My son and my self (entered as a Team) did get drew. I'm trying to find SOMETHING about this area... We are going to try and goup the front part of the week of Thanksgiving to scout. (no clue to where to even start, we need a place to camp also (cargo trailer). We will be back up there thanksgiving day night to make the 2 day hunt. Hopefully these 2 trips will help us out for the tentatively planned Mid December hunt. Maybe even the 1st week of January.
