We are 1 month away from the start of the Texas hunting season, and in some locales season is anywhere from already open - just a couple weeks away.

What are y’all’s upcoming goals for this season?

Mine have changed gears a bit due to various circumstances, some trips have pushed off and others did not materialize and some are still up in the air, but that’s ok.

My goals for this upcoming season are as follows:

Both me and my wife kill PB bucks in Ohio, mine with my bow.

Kill my first big game animal with traditional archery gear.

Rattle up a shooter buck for my friend at his ranch.

Kill a big mule deer out in the desert.

Get in one or two good duck hunts.

What are some of yalls goals to each for the 2021-22 season ?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Kill 5 deer with my bow on my new place. Kill my biggest LF Hill Country whitetail. Do some cull/management hunts on friends ranches. Hope to draw a WMA archery or general season hunt this year. Mainly just to hunt as much as I can..as in everyday if possible.

1) 11 yo daughter shoots her first animal/deer
2) 8 yo daughter shoots her first animal (javelina or rabbit - her request)
3) 14 yo boy finally tags out on a mule deer (been chasing them for 3 years now). It’s a different ballgame when out on a stalk compared to sitting in a blind
4) Read Creekrunners write up about “coming down the mountain” with a loaded pack.

I have just been doomed to failure, or at least a sprained ankle.

Good luck to all the kiddos!

Have two trips scheduled for this hunting season. Oklahoma muzzleloader deer and a Nilgai trip in mid-November. The October trip is a long standing tradition with my little bro and a good friend. I don’t care if I kill a deer or not. A week of fun and camaraderie is my goal. I’d like to see brother kill a good buck. Would like to kill a mature Nilgai in November. It’s been a bucket list hunt for a while.

You don’t sprain ankles in Kennetreks. Leg might snap off at the knee but your ankle will be just fine

Good luck. I've never put that much thought into hunting. I just want the beer to be cold, campfire to be hot, plenty of good food and great camaraderie with friends. If I see something that gets me fired up enough to harvest, that's a bonus.

Extremely, this wouldnt be a good year for border lines to walk out. They will get rolled.

Only two of the tags are what I deem, serious. Rest are fun with friends and family.

1. Get my son on his first non cull/management buck hopefully on Ft Hood

2. Kill a nice mature buck on my lease

3. Possibly kill a big mature buck on Ft Hood

4. Wild card would be if my son or I get drawn for a hunt I’d love for us to get to hunt hunt some animals in areas we haven’t hunted.

Last but not least have fun and make memories.

Hopefully get drawn for another Texas hunt this year.

Spend alot more time in the field this year. My new job should afford that. My 7 off in November starts the day before the opener.

Take all my deer with the 708 I'm having built. Hopefully it's ready by then.
