I just bought out an estate sale, with tons of ammo, some antique. Some dangerous.

If you would be interested in Blue 16 gauge shells, or Red 20 gauge shells from the past, let me know and I'll get you one of each. They make great displays/teaching tools. And it's why they are outlawed by convention now. Just send me a private message or email with certification proof, so I'm not putting these out in circulation.

Wish I was still doing that, those are good examples to have.

I'm not an instructor but am interested...what's the uniqueness/history of these shells?

Several years ago the industry and ATF and others agreed to make all 16 gauge purple; and all 20 gauges yellow; and that no other gauges would use yellow or purple. This is to reduce the chance or 20/12 or 16/12 bursts from using the wrong shell. 12 gauge can be other colors, as can 410. I found some red 16 and blue 16 ga; and some red 20 gauge shells in this estate. I could not in good conscience sell them, but would give examples to hunters ed instructors so they can show the dangers of wrong ammo choices.

Interesting. I bird hunt quite a bit and never really paid attention or took note of the colors. But to be honest, I haven't bought 20 GA shells in several years. I stockpiled back then and have been working through them. I may very well have some other colors of 20 GA myself. I know for a fact I have several boxes of 16 GA that aren't purple.

And sorry, didn't mean to imply that I was interested in buying or acquiring your shells. I was just interested in the back story on them. Thanks for providing.

Sorry I didn't mean to imply that, just wanted to be clear I'll either give them to instructors or destroy them myself. I knew you were only interested in the story.
