Doves around the Ray Roberts area appear to have had an average hatch. I'm not seeing any measurable effects from the big chill. I've had several nesting pairs around the house which is normal for me. I see a decent number on the roads getting gravel and on the power lines too. How about in your area?

Just started seeing young mourning doves on the power lines around my fields about 2 weeks ago. The "big chill" did kill some doves. I found 10-15 frozen to death around my compound in February. Also seeing several decent groups of whitewings. Now that the sunflowers are drying out I'm seeing more and more around my fields. Lots of food for them this year.

I am a keen observer of these winged (future BBQ bacon wrapped morsels) creatures...and this year, the numbers are down...at least where I am outside of San Antonio... :-(

The hard February freeze has had an effect on the population, for sure!

Not seeing as many as normal this year around Sanger but it doesn't matter anyway. Most are white wings and they leave a week or 2 before season starts.

I’m wondering if the morning dove population will be eliminated by the bigger ring neck and white wing? Used to to hatches if morning only; now lots of those other two.

I hadn't seen a dove on my place in Van Zandt county since the freeze - where we found a few pieces left over from hawk kills.

About 3 days ago started to see some on our place. Pretty odd - we usually have a bunch of local birds around by now.

We've had a bunch of hawks, caracara, and a few bald eagles since last fall that really seem to hang around in the area. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Come to think of it I haven't even seen the group of tree ducks that hang around for several weeks now.
