Going to New Orleans for the first time. Just a weekend road trip . Would appreciate advice on things to do and see. Staying in a hotel not far from bourbon street. Will be doing some drinking while there. May be interested in doing a tour but it looks like there are tons of them and not sure which to choose. Good food info would be great as well,, love crawfish and oysters. .Any others things I shouldn't miss would be great.

WW2 museum.
I prefer to stay in garden district. Bourbon street isn’t really my thing, anymore.

Cathy was born there. She spends a couple of nights on each trip from Georgia.
I made a trip back and planned to spend two nights. I left after the first night.

Been several years since I've been so I won't offer specifics, but my advice is to eat, drink & enjoy yourself. I seem to gain at least 5 lbs every time I visit...

Do a ghost tour, well worth the price of the ticket. Eat, drink and be merry, but be aware of where you are after dark. Breakfast at Mother’s is worth the wait in line

Donuts at Cafe Du Monde. Burgers at Port of Call on Esplanade, on the edge of the Quarter. A cold beer at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop.
Find a sandwich shop that will make you a: meatball po-boy, dressed, extra hot mustard, American cheese.
Be very alert. Do not wander north of the Quarter and avoid dark streets. Never go into an above ground cemetery unless you are with a crowd.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

We've gone at least once a year since college. Don't party like we used to but still have a blast. Mostly go for the food now.
Dooky Chase for fried chicken Brennan's for brunch Mother's for Po-boys and red beans Katie's for seafood Yo Mama's for burgers Commander's Palace for upscale
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

This is next door to WW2 museum. Confederate Memorial Hall opened its doors in New Orleans on January 8, 1891, and since that time has been commemorating the military history and heritage of the South. The museum is the oldest in Louisiana and houses one of the largest collections of Confederate memorabilia in the United States. https://confederatemuseum.com/

It would take something very special to get me to go to norlins willingly. Same for Vegas etc. Go enjoy it, and get it out of your system then never go back is my advise. The food is really the only draw but then if you want the best food that part of the country has to offer you need to go west and south of that old, dirty, smelly, raunchy, nasty, disgusting and scummy city.
Other than those qualities New Orleans is a fine town.
