Search function won't let me search for 'LPVO' or "low power variable optic" so please excuse my ignorance if this came up recently. Looking for something between 1-6 and 1-10 and looking for suggestions. Athlon, Trijicon, Sig, S&B, Kahles, Vortex -- they all have options. Any first hand experience for comparison sake?

First hand experience with SWFA 1-4 and Primary Arms 1-8. Love them both. If it's going on a 5.56 or 308, hard to beat the Primary Arms with the ACSS reticle for shooting fast and ranging human targets.

SWFA 1-6 HD has a lot of fans. I like Trijicon scopes but I'd pay attention to the reticle. I would personally avoid Vortex but that's just me.

Thanks Scott. I was looking at the PA as well with the Raptor M2 ACSS reticle. Did you get the SLx or the PLx? I’d like the platinum but I have a hard time paying premium price for a PA scope

I have the SS 1-6x FFP.

At 1X of course the reticle gets small, but you end up with a fairly large, fairly thick ring. And it is a true 1X. You can see your muzzle.

At 6X you have a full blown Mil reticle. I've used it to 500 yards on steel.

It is also red illuminated. It is one of the best carbine scopes made in my opinion. Shots from a few feet to 500 yards with one optic.

whatcha going to use it for?

Mostly pigs and yotes, 15 yds to 400 yds. Will run 120 SSTs through it

I have the several SLX 1-8 second focal plane. I actually have one on a 6.8 that needs to be sighted in. I just put together another 6.8 upper since the other has thermal on it. I considered the PLX. I think it's worth the money if you want to go premium. They are 34mm and made in Japan.

Hadn't heard of them before, Blanco. Learned something new today! Not the right scope for me though in this configuration since they only offer MOA.

Really wondering if I should just grab ATACR 1-8 with the MRAD adjustments. Seems like overkill, but I'm talking myself into it after thinking about the Primary Arms PLX

Not a huge fan of LPVO for hunting that range and on critters that are relatively tiny-- the small obj and higher range magnification get dark QUICK, even on high quality glass and reticle selection becomes really important. I killed my biggest buck with my AR (1-6x) right at last light-- it was my backup gun I had an issue with my bolt rifle that morning. I could see that deer clear as day from just over 200 yards through my binos but then transitioning over to my rifle and it added significant difficulty to what should have been a lay up.

I think a great option would be a NF NXS 2.5-10x42 or Leupold VX6 2-12 or VX5 2-10 where you have the obj diameter to take advantage of the magnification and if you really feel the need for something fast for up close shots get a 45 degree offset and put a small, less expensive red dot on it.

I agree with this. I have a Vortex Razor 1-6 so that's where my experience is coming from. I think something that goes up to 10-12 would better suit the longer ranges you're looking at if lighting is a consideration.

In regards to the Vortex, I like it. I've run it hard, real hard, and it's held up. It's heavy. I have seen a few break, but they were warrantied without issue. I wouldn't get it at new/retail, but I get a pro deal. If you can find one used for a decent price i think you'll like it if you stick with a 1-6.

yeah, I have ran a ton of LPVs, I love them for fast shooting but low light performance isn't their strong point..
I run a 1-5 Steiner tactical on my 6.8 for pigs and deer in the right scenarios...

While it's not really a true LPVO
SWFA has their 1-10 lightweight scope
I don't own one but it gets great reviews
