See this pretty often....but usually just one side. Likely 'hog doggers' not getting to the pig quickly enough or letting a 'Catch Dog' train. Neighbors Grandsons have been running dogs quite a bit the past year. Mostly just scattering the hogs. Certainly educating all of them. When a pigs ears are 'crushed' too badly they become necrotic and most of the ear falls away. A disservice to the pig. As much as I hate pigs, I don't like seeing this either. But I'm not a big fan of Hog Doggers anyway.

Does sort of make a guy feel sorry for them.... Hey Stony, Well you and I have both been trying to get rid of as many hogs as possible for many years now. While it is hard for me to feel sorry for them.....it is certainly a disservice to an animal to let that happen. IF a person were to catch a hog with dogs and kill it....that would be one thing. But to just 'run' the hogs for sport pretty much just makes everyone's problem worse. I recognize that some hog doggers are responsible and DO in fact remove the hogs they catch and don't allow their dogs to get off of the property they have permission to run on, but those are few and far between where I live. I can post dozens of videos and pics of hogs with torn/tattered ears or worse....missing altogether. These are the result of 'Catch and Release' escapades or a failure of the catch dog(s) to hold the pig. I am going to go and sit on that hog stand sometime in the next few days and if I kill that hog....will post how badly damaged it was. Its one thing to catch and kill a hog.....quite another to mutilate it. Cutting the tails off is another practice that seems popular here.

Back early this morning it looks like. Another boar happy to stand under the feeder and let the coons drop corn down to him.

Coons start 'slacking' and he tells them he needs 'more corn down here'. Guess I'd better get down there this evening.

Killed this one last night, long, tall boar. The 'No Ears' boar does not (so far) frequent the feeder, but I suspect it might be because of the other boar (now deceased) being in the area. So I will continue to monitor the camera. If the N/E boar will demonstrate any kind of a 'pattern' then I'll go and set up on him.

Nice one. A lot of them fight like Mike Tyson. This one just had a stub left.
One shot is all it should take.

Keep on dispatching 'em! we really haven't seen much sign of them at the lease in the last 6 weeks... not even along the creek bottoms and sloughs. However i'm going to start corn out a little earlier this year and i'm sure that will draw them back.

Is the Flintknapper SOCOM your rifle on choice on these? I've been using my 7mm-08 lately....for a couple of reasons. 1. I've been hunting lone boars the last few trips out. When I have a group of hogs I like to use the SOCOM and let two or more pigs get 'lined up' before shooting. Better to get multiples with one shot. With a 540 gr. hard-cast bullet I can shoot through as many pigs as will get lined up. I've never recovered one of those bullets. I don't know where they stop. I guess when they hit MAGMA. 2. Saving ammo. I have plenty of loaded ammo for each rifle but currently reloading supplies are scarce to non-existent. Not knowing how long this situation will last, I am trying to save my SOCOM ammo and using the 7mm-08 loads instead (where I can).

Had one on our place several years back that had no ears. She was normal and healthy in every other way. I ended up killing her, and she had no scars or other markings that would indicate being caught or torn up by dogs. Was always a bit of a mystery as to how she got that way.
On the other hand, killed one earlier this spring that had been torn all up by dogs. Had fresh but healing scars all over her, ears were shredded but still there. She was hobbling pretty bad, running a couple minutes behind the group.

Old no ears may be a bar. More than one cut hog has had the ears docked to mark a future eater before being turned loose.

Old no ears may be a bar. More than one cut hog has had the ears docked to mark a future eater before being turned loose. I've killed some Bar Hogs that had ears 'notched' at the tips but not completely docked. This particular hog is a Boar (fully intact), I have other video of him.
