I think most people have heard of the grizzly attack and fatality in Montana. We just had another one this morning, up in Island Park (70 miles north of me) on a man running on an ATV trail. Ran into a mama bear and 2 cubs, and she chewed him up. He survived and got back to the cabin, and has been treated.

They were there first, people need to remember that.

Totally agree, but we sure are getting a lot of them. Hunting up in that area will keep you on your toes. I spent the last 11 days on the Madison River looking for them, but this was the first year I couldn't find one!!! They sure are a neat animal to watch (from a distance).

Wow. I was elk hunting in that area last fall. Never did see one, but there was plenty of sign.

We Elk Hunt in Wyoming and have seen them up close and personal. There always on your mine when in there part of the woods. If you remember they will kill you and eat you at the drop of a hat and don't forget it you'll be fine. Remember a Grizzly bear does not argue.

There is no reason to go running/jogging in Griz country.

Be a long drive from there to find somewhere to jog.

Wow
I'd say this guy was pretty damn lucky with the end result. It could have ended much more different.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Sounds like a typical surprise encounter. The man appeared suddenly in the area of the sow and cubs. The mama took that as a threat, beat him up pretty good and the bears left.

That is sort of like saying there is no reason to be living in griz country, LOL. People get attacked while out walking, so is there no reason to be walking in griz country? People get attacked while fishing? Again, no reason to be fishing in griz country? Hunters get attacked in griz country...so no reason to be hunting in griz country?

This guy is quite lucky. It doesn't sound like he was prepared for an encounter even though he knew the area. I know running w/ a gun and/or spray is not comfortable, there's really no reason he shouldn't have had some form of protection.
