I entered my two ten year old sons for the gun deer either sex drawing on choke canyon north shore and James Daughtry starting this year. I guess I have 6years until they are 16 to hope to get drawn maybe. I have fished down there a lot, and have bird hunted a little in some of the compartments. Other than that, we'll have to see how it goes. Boys each killed their first deer on the family place last year, so they've got a little experience under their belt. hope for the best. hunt dates indicated are dec 20-22, I would tend to think that would be a good time of year down there.

My daughter was chosen to hunt last year we hunted unit 5. We saw deer everyday and had opportunities to shoot multiple 120-130 inch deer but we were after a particular 160 inch deer. She didn't shoot anything but it was not her fault on the last morning she took a shot at a 135 inch deer and missed, she never misses turns out she had put 243 shell in her 7mm-08. Its my fault I'm just glad she wasn't hurt. i would take a lot of corn, be patient, take some type of cloth to cover blind windows as well. She also had several opportunities to shoot a hog as well. Good luck!

i appreciate the information. you mean unit 5 in james daughtrey? They said I could put in for both categories so i put in for north shore and daughtrey to improve our odds. how far did yall have to shoot? Sit in a pop-up blind or an on-site blind?

i've heard people say a lot of corn before as well, the hunt dates if selected are DEC 20-22 so i'm guessing a 2-2.5day hunt. how much is a lot? 200-300lbs?

i'm glad to hear yall got to go, had yall put in for the drawing many times before selection?, and also glad your daughter wasn't injured with the rifle. that could have been dangerous.

As a youth hunter under adult supervision, does the youth have to have taken hunter education already to partake i this hunt?

I am not sure about the hunter education? 200-300 lbs is plenty, shots were from 50-150 yds, yes unit 5 James Daughtry
I think all of the successful hunters came off of JD.

i followed up with the park. hunter education is not necessary as long as they are under 17th and accompanied by and licensed adult who has had hunter education.

Thanks for the info
