Someones been digging some big holes on the farm. I was about to give it up but did a last scan with my green light. Saw something but couldn't make it out. Shadow? Then it moved. Got on the rifle and he had moved some but was still and broadside. DRT and no movement - almost thought I had missed because I couldn't see him in the tall grass. In on the left neck and a decent but atypical exit wound. I know some like the Grendel on hogs but it is really hard to argue against the .308. Delivers about 50% more kinetic energy and momentum than the Grendel. This guy was another bruiser with a few battle scars. Anyway, enjoy.

I have an AR-10 in .308 and an AR-15 in 300 BLK. I have been using the Blackout because most of my shots are less than 100 yards, and it's a lighter rifle to carry. But every now and then I think about going back to the .308 because, as you say, it just hits so much harder.

No kidding, and I dont have a sling yet either. My setup has me less than 100 yards from my car. When it was cooler and I did a little wandering I felt every bit of it. My Tikka T3X I used to use but the AR is more fun and it holds more than 3 ends. I have a 5.56 I've never taken out there because I want dead hogs, even short of 100 yards.

I shoot a gas gun in .308 on a regular basis. What bullet do you load?

Glad you got him! Bad shoulders have convinced me to go with a lighter version of hog killer than my AR-308. No complaints from the hogs yet!

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.

Sometimes the Universe puts you in the same situation again to see if you’re still a dumbass.

I don't load it myself. I buy bulk (500 rnds) from a smallish local manufacturer in N. Tex - got hooked up with them years ago at a gun show. I believe they told me they are Hornady150 gr. Interlock BTSP, and I think they chrono at around 2950 FPS. They have done quite well for me. I've shot 150 GR Remington Core-Lokt as well and those have done well too. Most shots forward of the shoulder have been DRT. Behind the shoulder I'll get runners that have gone up to 100 yds plus before dropping but not always (lung/heart). Not prolific, but in my limited kills (<100) I've only had one drop and get up - he was the back half of a double. I think I have 5 doubles now, some accidental, DRT. Several quartering shots (towards and away) behind the shoulders have been DRT with no exit wounds, some i've had to look hard for the entry wound and/or little or no blood.

It's really hard to get around the .308 as the best all around for hogs. I'd like to hear from someone who hunts with a 6.5 CM since that's the best comparison round.

I don't always carry my AR-10, but when I do…

I load 150 grain Hornady SP bullets for it.

They're just the basic SP interlock with the flat base, no boat tail. I really can't speak to long range performance, but at short to medium ranges (up to maybe 150 yards) they work fine. Like DT said above, very few get up and wander off after being shot.

Right on. I don’t think there’s a more reliable and better performing all around bullet at the price that the Hornady interlocks go for. I’d take them over a core lokt bullet any day.
