After another trip to Academy I still see a ton of 350 Legend ammo on the shelf. Is this a good round for hogs and whitetail at 100-200 yards. I am no expert on ballistics and not a hand loader. From my quick research, I know it’s not gonna make clovers, but it has to hit where I point a bit at least😁 Seems like a great low recoil round for my girls to start shooting pigs with.

No first hand experience with the 350 legend but I’m sure sub 200 yard deer hunt g is well within its capabilities. I would think it’s accuracy is limited most by the quality of rifle and ammunition you feed it. I’m not sure but don’t think it is a particularly low recoil round.

If your thinking low recoil like 300 blk it is not. It’s more in the range of powder capacity of a 22-250. It isn’t a high recoil round, but I’d take a 7.62x39 over it.

Thanks for the feedback. Few reviews I googled up said less recoil than a 243. Just have no real world idea. My girls are 15&12. They have shot the .270 but not eager to shoot it again. They do handle the 6.5 and a .556 very well. Not being a handloader and having a hard time finding 6.5, was just thinking out loud for another option.

If they handle the creedmoor well the 350 legend should be no issues.

It would work, for 200 yards hunting, 100 yard zero you are 7 to 10 inches low at 200 yards and about 700 to 900 foot lbs remaining so more than I get with my 357 lever action or my 357 max handgun. I consider those 125 yard guns for hunting. Remember those are large frontal diameter bullets and at that speed they will do some damage and penetrate.
Do I plan on getting one, no. But it is interesting and I can see the popularity in areas where straight walled cartridges are allowed. One thing I do not understand though is the use of .355 diameter bullets (9mm) instead of .357 diameter bullets.

I think the ammo shortage is slowly resolving itself. It isn’t the salad days but most things can be found if you do some looking. I wouldn’t choose a caliber simply because there was a stack of that ammo at academy. My ten year old shoots a 243 and 6.5 CM fine. There are much better calibers for hunting than the 350 legend in my opinion. For the most part it seems the only people really using it are those in states where they are mandated to use straight wall.

I have had good luck with the 350 Legend. I bought an AR upper when it first came out and have taken several hogs and a couple of deer. In an AR it is hun to shoot and the accuracy isn’t too bad. The ammo selection continues to get better.

I think it would work really well with the right ammo which would be a very soft bullet. I think the 150 Winchester XP ammo is probable the ticket if you are using to over 100 yards.

I have a 357 Maximum in a Contender carbine in my rotation of rifles. Similar to a 350 legend. Like everything else good shot placement and they go down. I am using 180 grain cast gas checked. M

I had AR15 16" barrel 350 Legend. I shot 7 or 8 pigs with it, most at 140 yds, all were DRT. I sold it because accuracy was erratic. It would throw 1 or 2 shots out of a 5 shot group way high most times I shot it. I tried everything to get it to shoot because I really liked it, plenty of killing power in a small, lightweight package with relatively low recoil. WW 180 gr Power Points at 2100 fps are great killers. My son has one and his shoots accurate enough, 2"-2.5'' groups at 100 yds, he loves it.

I built three bolt rifles and four AR-15's in the caliber about 5 years ago for myself and friends . With 5 years of hunting deer and pigs with it by 5 different people , we found it to be a very good 200 yard or less cartridge . It works great at subsonic , much better than the 300 bl . The recoil is mild , none of the kids that tried them had a problem at all . Also it has much less muzzle blast than a .223 or 22-250 , and kids do not like muzzle blast . We have found the 180 grain bullet to be the best combination of velocity , frontal area and weight for the best results .

Winchester came out with it to satisfy hunter needs in states that have allowed straight wall cartridges to be used during firearms season that were previously shotgun only.
Ballistics are very similar to a .30-30 ( which ironically isn’t legal for use in those states )
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Pass the gravy.
