First shoulder mount done and ready for pick up. Turned out really nice, hope it looks as good in person as it does in the pic. Turn around time was much faster than anticipated, so that makes me happy. Shout out to Ericks Taxidermy!
That's a beauty! Details? When? Where? Score? thanks
Private LF ranch in Love County OK, last weekend of rifle season up there so the trailing end of the peak rut season (late november), sitting in a stand tucked into some trees along the ranch road that was put up right before season started (pain in the neck to get it there but it was a productive stand for this lease last year) with slight NE to feeder, wind blowing from the west to east (light) so a bad wind for the feeder, plenty of deer action and even some hogs I thought about popping since light was getting low, caught this guy walked in from the west upwind of my stand going straight toward the feeder, had some brush he needed to clear for a good shot but as soon as he cleared and got to the road about 90 yards away I popped him with my .300wsm and drt. I didn't know it initially he drt, so I am looking around for a running deer and saw nothing, then looked back and saw him laying where he was shot. Called my buddy freerange and told him I need help, didn't tell him why in my blitz of excitement, and he was freaked out the whole ten minute ride in from the ranch house unsure if I was hurt or whatnot, he got there and told him I nailed this guy, freerange was happy as a clam. We went and recovered the deer, got it in my truck and took it down to gut and put in freezer.
Two days later, another member shot a bigger scoring deer out of the same blind with the deer going the same route to the feeder (if I remember correctly). the two bucks were buddies all pre-season and had broken up during the rut, both were run down pretty good, but both were awesome deer. My deer above scored right around 161, the other scored in the 70's. My deer has a bigger look to him, but suffers in the mass dept compared to other deer on this lease, but I am thrilled with him.
