You might need to try a mower with a different handle. That one seems to aggravate the arthritis in your fingers. smile

Did a little mowing this morning just to get out of the house. I always mow the worst first.

And I would get an app of fungicides down. Hot and humid ='s disease, Propiconazole will stunt your growth a bit, the Bio, but will handle dollar spot. Azoxystrobin (scotts) gives you a different group to mix, but does nothing for Dollar. Apply at the curative rate.

That gives you a Group 3 and 11 fungicide action. Which is good.

Thanks Derek!

This sounds like better advice than I got from the guys that installed the sod.

A $400 water bill for 4 months out of the year is going to take some getting used to, but I ran the numbers at our current water rates and that is what 1"/week at the current water rates. If it cannot make it on 1"/week, I'll switch from fertilizer to roundup, then plant cactus.

I will run the numbers and talk with my neighbor...it may be that going in 50/50 on an irrigation well makes sense. I think in this area we can drill a 8 - 10 GPM well for about $4500, plus the pump. That would be less than a 2 year payout.

Not as pretty as Derek’s but, fresh mow and fresh stain on the deck and fence. Hung some cafe lights over the deck.

Got so much shade in the back yard grass hardly grows back there. But is what it is we’ll still enjoy it.

Thanks Froggy! It’s been a lot of work over the last couple weeks. I way underestimated how much stain I needed for the fence. So most of the time was spent waiting for shipments. That gray away from southern stain and seal in Plano is some good stuff. Thanks Judd, cost me over $600 in stain but it turned out great.

Great Oracle of Lawns....

Scott's Diseaseex is down at the curative rate.

After hitting a nursery, HD, & Lowes, the closest thing I can find to the recommended fertilizer is a 13-13-13 that is 5% Ammonium Nitrogen and 8% Urea Nitrogen . Just about everything else in big bags is just nitrogen or its a weed&feed.

Is that safe for the lawn, or do I need to expand my search?

Thanks

What you found will work fine. Where you'll find ammonium sulfate based ferts is at feed stores. Most feed stores keep APF American Plant Food ferts. Lone Star Feeds is a huge private label for APF. Russell feed store is another. APF K8 is a 15-5-10 with added micros that I recommend a lot for people and they are getting great results with it. Russell has their on private label of it. I'm using APF 13-13-13 that I buy at a local Nutrien Ag.

Disease pressure is higher than hell right now. Get your Scotts Disease EX which is cheap on Amazon for $16.00 a bag right now. And Bio Advance. Seen they have it as a granular now last week at Lowes. Water them in. Bio also comes in a hose end. That's Azoxystrobin and Prop, so that gives you a group 11 and 3. Apply at preventative if your lawn it looking on point. Which I doubt. Apply at the curative rate, then roll preventative rate 14 days later. The thing about diseases is it's easier to control as a preventative than a curative. So don't be smoking a Cig while applying. Thank me later.

Your were on target Derek. The Disease EX and fertilize has stopped the yellow\brown spots from growing and green already appearing in most of the damaged spots.

I'll follow up with another round of Disease Ex next week.

At what point is it safe to start working on the weeds on new Bermuda sod? Do I hold off on that the entire summer to let the sod get better established?

If you've mowed a couple/few times you're good to go. Downside is there are no real good options at the box stores to use in this heat. What your plan of attack. Boom spraying that 34K or you planning on spot spraying? Do you have a lot of trees out there? Specifically oak and elms?

If you dig around in the rose bush can you find the cone shaped things hanging around? They have a worm in them...I fought those things to the point of giving up on a knockout rose bush. It's dead now....both the worms and the bush grin
