If you're driving from Texas, lots of spots along your route to stop and shoot for free. Almost any public section will have some PDs.

The main reason for the trip to S.D. is to visit friends but I would like to shoot some PD but time is one problem. Finding public areas can be a problem plus everyone in that area knows about it. I do know of an area in Wyoming that may be a good spot to check out plus no license fee. Thanks Daniel

Lots of PD towns along the highways in Wyoming and Nebraska and most land owners will be glad to let you get out there and shoot them.

Have you looked into the Rosebud Indian Reservation in SD? Several years ago it was one of the premier PD shooting destinations. Required hiring a reservation guide, check the rules thoroughly.
