Good luck. It's like hunting unicorns right now. I have been searching for 6MM Rem a couple months now, and the only good ammo is available from scalpers for around $60-80 a box. I've been lucky to get a couple boxes reasonable, and some dies and components tho.

6mm Remington?

.243 Winchester?

6mm Creedmoor?

6mm ARC

6X47 Lapua?

6mm is a caliber, not a cartridge.

Alright.

He's missing out. Many of us have taken apart factory ammo, and we'll lots of it sucks. Temperature sensitive powders, and very inconsistent powder charges piece to piece. Then you have myself and many others that use temperature stable powders, and extremely consistent powder charges. But he'd rather support the big corporations and their very high profit margin,as opposed to a local hand made product. Pretty much the same as being able to buy beef from the rancher down the road, but you'd rather buy beef from the grocery store that imported it from Brazil.

I'll stop looking for brass. Good luck to him.

If my brother in law said that I'd tell him for find his own damn ammo. I have been handloading for decades and I assure you I can turn out higher quality and more accurate ammo than any of the big factories can. As a matter of fact I only have one rifle (6.5x55) that I can't beat factory ammo on. My 6.5x55 absolutely loves the Seller & Bellot ammo loaded with a 131 gr bullet. I can match the accuracy with a handload but I can't beat it.

If he had a gun blow up from a reload then there was something seriously wrong. By the way I have a really hard time believing a handload blew up a gun. I'd bet he had an obstructed barrel if it blew.

Right.

A handloader that "halfway" knows what he's doing, still makes far safer and tighter shooting ammo than any factory can produce. Throw in a hand loader with a ton of experience with hundreds of rifles, and it is no contest.

A gun blew up, caused by a handload? Highly unlikely. The vast majority of firearm explosions are caused by user error - with unnoticed barrel blockage being at the top of that list.

Factory ammo is garbage, I would never shoot garbage from my guns. But to each his own I guess.

Most are barrel obstruction or wrong powder used that I can recall reading about. Put a fast pistol powder in a large or over bore bottle neck rifle case and I could see it happening (that would be poor reloading practice)

6 Remington is a perfect hand loader cartridge. Nothing factory can do what a hand load does. Especially if it were a 6 ackley and have a 8 twist tube on it.

Factory ammo is garbage, I seen a box of 308, 20 cartridges from Remington, have 4 duds in it. Same guy had a old box of Winchester and had 3 duds in it. Now both these boxes looked good like they were stored properly.

Maybe your factory load only friend had a squib, and failed to realize he stuck a bullet and sent a nice live round right behind it, and that’s all it takes to have a kaboom.

Not a single round I have ever loaded has failed to go off, not one single time.. and I bet JG’s in the same boat I am in never ever witnessed nor seen one of his handloads fail to fire.

I bet you can go the next 4-5 years and not see a new box of 6mm Remington because it’s a classic round and to be perfectly honest out dated because it was reinvented into the 6 mm creedmoor which shoots big heavy boolets more efficiently than an over bored 6 remmy.

I love the 6mm Remington, one of my favorites but to me it’s a handloaders round

Actually I have had a handful not fire. Good strike on the primer, so it was a bad primer.

But looking at it as percentage, it would have to be .001% of the rounds I've loaded.

Bad enough it is time to give up on the cartridge, and go with a .243 Win in a new barrel.
