I just turned 50. Looking towards retirement and I rarely check my 457/401k. I check it once every couple years.

Checked it today, I think it’s time for me to move it to something more stable, in the next few days.

Then I will meet with a financial planner. Just need something in Fidelity I can move my money to.

Any suggestions???

I’m not experienced enough to give you advice, but I am curious about what you’re currently invested in and what you’re looking for. Stocks, mutual funds, etc.

Im aggressive. Fidelity index funds/ Fidelity Contra.
I invested about 10k in stock, which grew to 100k. AXON.

Contra has been steady over 20 years. But want to avoid a 2008 drop and a 10 year recovery.

Even Fidelity balanced fund dropped considerably in 2008. Want to avoid that.

Usually a safe bet. Got a young wildcard at QB.

At 50 I stayed the course of a good mix of high and medium growth.

60% total stock 40% total bond.

70/30 if you want to be more aggressive. 50/50 if you want to be even less.

The market will go down and the market will go up. Hopefully for an average of 7% per year minimum. You won’t lose a dime if you don’t sell. If you need this money make sure it’s in bonds.

Or keep investing in individual stocks and hope you can get out before the 50+% drop.

I know what you mean. That ‘08 drop was brutal.

According to historical returns and data this allocation has the lowest failure rate for a long retirement. Surprisingly enough a 40/60 stock/bond split has a higher failure rate than a 90/10 stock/bond allocation.

Clov will most likely squeeze to $50-$100 in the next month or 2

All this is true

Play the market. Go all in and go aggressive. You’ve got at least another 15 years, maybe 30 if you want to be a certain Captain

Looking for thoughts on fidelity bond funds. Some are 3 to 4 percent return. Not as much risk.

I have 9 months left. (Hopefully).

Could start drawing from my account.

Roll-Tide, I am am dealing with this with my mother in law right now. I am getting her into individual bonds, not bond funds. Bond funds can crash just like the stock market. I am buying her individual bonds, meaning bonds linked to defined institutions, like municipal bonds, corporate bonds, even US bonds, with 5, 7,10 or even longer maturities, and some money into money market accounts. She will only lose money if those cities, counties, big companies, or the US government fail. Then we are all gonna fail. The choosing of individual bonds is not an easy task, so I would get help with a financial advisor, or have a lot of time to learn. I will likely keep some of her money invested in the stock market, carefully, only to get a little extra return to try and stay even or ahead of inflation, but that will be hard in the current environment. Keeping what she has is the most important for her at this stage of her life. Good luck, and be wary of those out there trying to sell you things that sound too good to be true.

Roll-Tide, if your 401K won't let you buy individual bonds, put a healthy junk of it into money market funds and short term treasuries. It will loose money against inflation, but it won't evaporate.

To be honest. I don’t know what I can buy.
I have a brokerage link to buy stock.

I just need it somewhere for a couple months. Until I meet with a retirement planner.

Just before I retired, I dumped everything and put liquid in the bank. Retirement isn't the time to gamble is my theory. Thus far, zero issues and no worries.

I agree. I had 30 years to make it happen. Time to go conservative and draw it out for 30 years. That’s my plan anyway.

I don't like that my money is accruing basically zero but the risk is over. If J.P. Morgan Chase goes under, ammo will be the only currency anyway. Luckily, I have more of that than money roflmao

If you only look at your account every couple of years, you definitely are in need of some rebalancing.

If your in Mutual funds know that the administrator of your 457 may have rules with some funds there if you move money out of a fund, you could have to wait up to 90 days before you can move money back into that fund or like fund. Same for example between cash or money market funds and a 457 administered brokerage option. And this may or may not apply to yours. You would need to look at all the fine print of your account. It is something to be aware of if your moving money now and know you are going to be rebalancing after your meeting.

If your "retirement planner" is not a fiduciary, I recommend also meeting with one. I met with both when I retired and it was obvious the non-fiduciary was trying to steer me in a direction that benefited who they worked for rather than in my best interest. Also, it's your money that you spent your adult life earning. I did the same as you for the most of my career, seldom looking at my accounts. But my last year of employment and first year of retirement I spent every spare moment reading investing and stock market books, studying my retirement plans and various investing options, reading articles, retirement seminars, paper trading, etc. I still don't understand it all and still learning, but I am able to make much smarter decisions that have paid off greatly since the day I retired. Asking random strangers for investing advice is never a good idea unless you follow through with your own due diligence.
