Tell him to get a GSP. They check every box on what he is looking for. X2 Best dog I've ever had. Smart as hell

We’ve always had boxers. Not technically water dogs, but ours have always loved to swim. They’re very well rounded…great family dogs, protectors, loyal, loving and silly. You won’t be disappointed, unless snoring bothers you.

A buddy of mine lives on the lake. He wants a fun energetic dog ( water and pool capable)that is smart and can also be a house dog. Less hair is good but that isn’t a deal breaker. Something that will go on a boat, won’t roam to much etc. His last dogs were guard dogs and always mean.
I’m familiar with labs and I know they are a great choice. Is there anything border collie smart and athletic with less hair?
Hunting dogs are fine but it won’t hunt
Go Goldendoodle or labradoodles!!

I have male friends that will only have male dogs, and I have male friends that will only have female dogs. I have female friends that are the same. It must be a body chemistry thing. My top 3 best, most loyal dogs in my life have been males. And male versus female, they have the potential of being equally intelligent.

Go We had one show up at the house Thanksgiving 2019. I could tell she was a hunting dog, but couldn't tell what. She was running around lost and eating acorns, so i new she was hungry, but with two 70lb labs already, we were not looking for another dog at the moment. She roamed around between us and the neighbors for several days, but i could tell she was smart and somewhat trained, so i thought maybe she just wandered away from home. After 5 days, she was still hanging around so we decided to feed her a proper meal. After another week, no one claimed her so we decided to keep her. We took her to the vet, and she came back heartworm positive. Maybe the previous owner knew this and let her go? We don't know. We went ahead with the treatment, as one of our labs is 12 years already, and we wanted her to teach the young pup some of her tendencies. We thought she was just a mutt with some hunting breeds in her, but we wanted to know for sure so we ordered an Embark DNA test for her. Turns out she is full blood 100% Mountain Cur. After reading some of the breed characteristics, she fits them to a T. She is highly energetic, but they are creatures of habit that love a routine. She is crate trained and doesn't whine or complain when you tell her to crate. They are very compassionate who love to cuddle, and she absolutely loves kids. The do require lots of exercise. If we get home late and she hasn't ran around to all of her spots, she will be up all night. We have 20 acres, and she knows every inch of it. Every squirrel tree and rabbit hole. She has even been know to chase a pack of wild hogs across the pasture and thru the woods. They are counter surfers, and she is a little food aggresive. She loves people, especially kids. Not worth a flip as a watch dog, she is too friendly!

Great dogs Big Country. My son took a pup in from a friend of his that couldn't keep him any more in her dorm. He was about 1 at the time and dumber than a box of rocks simply because the young lady had no clue of how to train a puppy when she got him and basically he learned nothing the first 6 months of his life. He is 100% mountain cur and now a year and an half later a hell of a good dog that never leaves our sides. He is exactly like you said above and absolutely loves my wife and she cannot lay down without him curling up in a ball behind her legs with his head draped over them. Ours will eat anything and is always hungry but he is very, very gentle when taking a treat from your hand. Here is the pic I found when I googled mountain cur Here is ours in one of his favorite positions napping on the couch and snoring. His name is Benji but also answer readily to Dumb Dumb & Little Sumbitch. lmao
