I finally got out and managed to score a hog. Last year was a disaster on multiple fronts but I'm hoping for better in 2021. I hunted a new property which belongs to a friend. I'd set out some game cameras and the indications were that hogs were coming in, although often well past midnight. The moon set early so I parked my truck at a corner of the field and set in a chair on the tailgate. The slightly elevated position made for safer shooting, as well as helping me catch an occasional breeze. It also kept me somewhat away from chiggers and ticks. About 2:15AM a lone sow appeared, entering the field from the south. This was the perfect shooting location. The area behind the sow is another field which belongs to my wife's family, so no issues there. I'd be hunting in it but it's planted in sorghum which is more than waist high right now, making any hogs there invisible.

Well that went really well. Lone sows aren't common unless they are nesting, about to give birth, or have just given birth. You probably got her just in time!

If you find yourself feeling useless, remember it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban.
Sometimes the Universe puts you in the same situation again to see if youโre still a dumbass.

Her teats weren't "bagged out", but she looked like she was probably preggers. It was late and I was working alone so I didn't open her up to be certain. looks like she is ready to pop, should have cut her open, would have been good eating I did take the backstraps and leg quarters. The meat is in the freezer waiting to be run through the grinder. She had a lot of fat, so there will be sausage!

Good work. A dead hog is a good hog; a dead pregnant sow is even better!!
