I'm seeing snakes but very few rattlesnakes, which is odd. I was wondering if the deep freeze killed some.

Plucked this little black rat snake off the road on my fence line last week. Still have not seen a rattlesnake or copperhead at my place in East Texas.

I'm averaging 3 to 4 rattlers a week, seeing them between 70 and 85 degree's out on the roads. Got two yesterday.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

There is no shortage of snakes where I am in north Texas. Nor here in Deep East Texas. In fact, I was out for my evening walk yesterday and ran across a Copperhead right in the middle of my path. It didn't try to crawl away as most do, didn't coil up either though. Just stayed stretched out as it was, turned its head towards me and opened its mouth (like moccasins do). I just walked on around it. I was talking with an old high school buddy on my phone at the time so didn't take a picture. As long as they are not up by the house, my shop or one of the outbuildings....I'm fine with them.

Non-venomous snakes are ok by me but venomous snakes on my property don't get a pass.

Last year was the "cicada larva" year around my place. I killed 27 copperheads total. Only snakes we've seen this year are the non venomous kind. Not a single copperhead seen so far.

Evidently, they are in my MIL's workout room. She went in there this morning to take a box in there (it's also storage) and there was a big rat snake sitting on top of the boxes!

Blows my mind how fast they are and how quickly they can climb a mesquite Mine are the Bull Snakes and we've got some big one's out here. Changed our oil haulers about 4 months ago and still have to lead one to the battery now and then until they figure out where everything is. About a month ago I was leading one in and a big Bull snake was laying in the road. It was pretty cool that morning and he was moving kind of slow so I went around behind him and grabbed him by the tail and moved him off the road. When we got to the btry he jumped out of the truck and said "That was crazy, I've never seen anybody grab a rattler like that". I just smiled and explained to him that his name was Earl and he was kind of a pet and he wait's by the road hoping I'll give him something to eat.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Non-venomous snakes are ok by me but venomous snakes on my property don't get a pass. Same. Think I saw my Blue Racer yesterday evening. He got big, and is still certainly fast!

I have not seen many snakes at all this year as compared to the years past. The majority of the few that I have seen have been either Coachwhips, Blue Indigo or Bullsnakes on the highways during my travels that past 3 months. I don't think I have seen any rattlesnakes this year that I can remember on the highway or backroads. Seen a few others snakes moving about out in the pasture now over the last 2 weeks.
