With abbot announcing Texas will build its own border wall, will that help land values and leases in South Texas. Assuming Biden doesn't send the feds to shut the state down.

The land that has been acquired was acquired by the federal goverment. How does Abbot plan to get permission?

It could make for some damn interesting legal arguments. All government entities (Federal, State, Local) have the power of seizing land thru imminent domain. It is rarely done at the federal level, as it is most often done at the local and state level. Now by law, the federal law has supremacy over state law - but the state could argue very rightly that the federal government who is responsible for border security, isn't doing it's job. To say it could be interesting is an understatement - and either way it's going to be a major damn thorn in the Democrats side come mid terms.

If the governor really wanted to play hardball, he could even seize Texas land further inside the border and raise the wall there - thus putting the federal land in a type of no mans land if it doesn't get off it's arse and finish the wall. If you think that can't happen, remember these border counties were Democratic for decades. They aren't now because the people that live there are having to put up with this crap and they are sick and tired of it.

Yep, I think Abbott is going to push this issue very publicly and force the feds to either do their job or to publicly stop Texas from doing it for them. It's actually not a bad play in theory - it puts this garbage presidential administration in a pretty sticky situation. .

Did the feds buy it in fee or is it an easement?

Depends if there was an easement with the Federal Acquisition, Texas could build just off that easement!

Listening to Abbot talk about this, he said that they are going to build a fence. Nothing close to what the wall is. Then when they go through it, or damage it, he will be able to legally arrest them and hold them for 6 months. This is all on the State level, which bypasses the Federal laws that the Supreme Court ruled on.

I wonder if it has to be chain link or would 5 strand barbed by sufficient?

Kinda like the UCMJ, "penetration however slight is sufficient to complete the offense"
