What does the forum think about making teachers wear body cameras?

It is interesting to me. I think most people act differently when they know they are being filmed. In this case that would apply to the one filming as much as the one being filmed.

If it will nip some of the beachy kids in the bud I say go for it. Give them a switch while they are at it and they can whoop the problem children too.

It will eliminate he said she said arguments. Like body cams for police I think we will see a drop in credible complaints.

If I can take my dog to the kennel when I travel and watch them in their room via video from afar, I should be able to do the same with my kids.

Hell, I pay for both of these activities, should always be able to see what I'm paying for.

I'm an educator, on the front lines, and I've taught in nice schools in nice neighborhoods, and rough schools in rough neighborhoods.

Honestly, I'd rather carry a compact sidearm.

Luckily, right now, I'm at a great school and a very peaceful part of DFW.
I currently teach 10th grade English, mostly composition and breakdown.

"Breakdown" means I help kids read passages, break them down, and I try to help them understand text that most likely is above their own reading levels.
The nuts and bolts of grammar and spelling, well, that's become secondary.

Great idea IMO

Only, don't let the students know about the cameras so that when the ones that act out do it there is proof so that their parents can see little 'johnny' isn't near the angel they think he is!

My wife just finished up her 27th year and loves kids beyond measure. She literally could have been anything she wanted to but chose to teach to make a difference. I think there are many times now she wishes she'd made a different decision many years ago....that's how much our school system and kids have changed. I don't blame the kids and neither does she. It is the horrible parenting of today's society and the spineless administrations of school districts now.

Just another rediculous reason to raise property owners school taxes. Freeing up teachers to jerk a knot in little Johnny’s azz when he gets too far out of line would be far more effective and would not cost one red cent. More politically correct nonsense.

Don't stop there. Allow teachers to use the video to file civil suits against parents.

A lot of public schools already have surveillance video cameras.

good idea......................

Body cameras wouldn't be necessary, if teachers, were allowed to maintain discipline.......
And the school system, backed them up...........

I seems like you have to have definitive video and audio proof nowadays.

I'm all for camera's in the classroom. Especially if the parents can log in and watch and listen.
Don't put a body camera on the teachers. Too much human error in that case...i.e. Mrs.Iforgot is going to the bathroom and forgets to turn off her camera....

I agree with you bro but the bottom line is a teacher's job should NOT to be the one doing the discipline. Back in the day a teacher would tell you to behave once, maybe twice if you had a really nice one, and then your azz got a pink slip and were sent to the principal or VP and they took care of it. Now the same admins don't want to see those kids sent to them and expect the teachers to do it within the classroom which is BS!
There are MANY MORE children now with problems than 25+ years ago. Just take a look at how many of them are on one med or another.

And when a truly problem child does finally get sent to the office for a discipline problem they are sent right back to the teacher's classroom.......sometimes with a damn cookie. SMDH

That's right, the last sentence is no BS!

If police officers and teachers have to wear them how about all companies make all their employees wear one. Of course then there will be the auditing systems from these companies that are already employed by police agencies. I think it would be sobering to the proponents of body cameras to have to wear one at work for a week. It's really motivating when you show up for work and get disciplined or demoted, because you were alone in a company vehicle, and the body camera shows you spontaneously yell an obscenity when someone cuts you off in traffic and there's nobody that even heard it. I've seen dozens of officers disciplined for that. As long as everything that everybody does is absolutely perfect, nobody should ever have to worry about wearing one all day at work. Right?

The cameras that were in place at the 3 schools my wife worked at put a lot of parents in their place. Those "little darlings" got busted for being the little turds they were.

That would not be a good situation for me. I tend to be pretty vocal sometimes about crappy drivers in the confines of my car. I don't use hand gestures, roll the window down to yell at them, etc., but I'll vent some frustrations for sure.

As far as teachers, the basic idea of them wearing body cams is very attractive to me. I know from plenty of experience that a lot of parents will come around to a logical way of thinking if they see and hear little Johnny acting like a little POS on video. They won't believe 20 eye witnesses, but they tend to believe the video. I don't think it would change much of anything on the other side with the more liberal/socialist teachers because they truly believe what they are pushing out to the kids is right.

Right "Bucks"....... But discipline...... starts in the classroom..........
And every person on the staff, is responsible for a part of overall discipline..........
Right along with Respect for the teacher..........
But, if a student knows, the "office" won't back up the teacher........
The "system" breaks down.........
I once had a janitor, catch me smoking in the boys room........
He ran me outta there, with a major swat across my backside, with a wet mop.....
Didn't stop me from smoking..... But, I sure looked for a safer place.............

The "office" is the last resort...... And trust me.... In my day.... you did not want to be sent to the office...

Mandatory? Absolutely not. We don't need any further big brother intrusions into our lives. There aren't really enough incidents to justify the cost anyways.

All that would accomplish is parents whining about this or that. I also don't think that just because you have a kid you should get to be as intrusive as you want at school. These are adult professionals; they don't need or deserve to be treated like the kids they are teaching.
