That front and rear axle assembly is very desirable for an early Bronco trail rig swap.

That front end is desirable for any trail rig. Can’t beat a driver side high pinion kingpin Dana 60

There was a time that the front and rear end might have been worth more than the truck.

Not the case anymore.

Just makes you feel better knowing the axles arent going to be jerked from that classic to become part of some hackjob trail buggy.

That looks like a fun project fireman. Keep us posted on the progress. Love the truck. Personally I would also be looking for a 460. No replacement for displacement.

A 300 CI straight six would be cool too, love inline motors.

I saw one parted out in Austin a couple years ago. The axles went on a custom tube buggy. It was no where near a “hack Job”

Been driving an inline 6 for 20 years, I love em too.

But this old iron is keeping this V8 or a bigger one.

As someone else who wasn't familiar with the "snow fighter" or the history of the truck, that's a really cool tid bit. The truck was awesome to begin with, but knowing more of it's history and more about what makes it so much of a rare survivor, definitely makes you appreciate the truck and the condition a lot more.

Had a 78 F250, 4x4 with the 400 years ago, great truck that would go where a lot of others wouldn’t. Enjoy!

I agree with the 460. I’ve had a couple, and I loved them both. Go big, or go home.

This has me seriously considering keeping my engine, and making it new, with some upgrades.

If you decide to build the 400 be sure and look into the oiling system. They have a tendency to starve the main bearings by pumping all the oil to the top of the motor. This happens more at extended high rpm running such as highway driving at high speed than at burst of performance. The good news is there’s oil restriction kits already in production, and well documented easy block modifications that will fix all this. Most M block motors that are “blown” simply need the crank turned and new bearings. Specifically the front mail will be knocking.

Both M motors in the 2 late ‘70’s F150s I had had a tick in the top end. Abused them both, never had any internal issues.

Mine had a lifter ticking on number 3. When I put a cam in it, I put in new 24 hour soaked lifters. Two weeks later, same lifter ticking. Pulled it and it was dished at the cam contact, so of course the cam is damaged also. So yes, it has a oiling problem. It will get a total overhaul, and hopefully no oiling problems.
