Just before midnight this boar came in to the feeder. I greeted him with a 250gr round from my 450 Bushmaster and down he went. This round does great on hogs. Then a porcupine tried to escape. I now know how to shoot the quills off one, use a 450B. They were everywhere! They both went to greener pastures.

Been trying off and on to get my 450B upper to cycle correctly so I can effectively use it on hogs. Nice job and I had to LOL on the porcupine.

A pig and a quill pig in one night. Sounds like a good night.

What is the issue, maybe we can help?

Yep, heavy, big bore rounds put them down hard....don't they?

Been killing them with my .458 SOCOM for about 12 years now. Had I known how effective big, heavy, medium velocity bullets would be...I would have been using them many years ago.

If I had to guess, I would bet its a BCA upper. I have one myself. I couldn't get it to cycle either. Drilled out the gas port a smidge and it runs like a champ now. Its a cheap upper, but it does all I need it to.

That was going to be my suggestion to explore, you can always install an adjustable gas block if you feel you've gone too big.

Sorry guys, just got back to this thread. It’s not a BCA upper. I believe it was made by Distributed Defense. 18 inch barrel. I believe you guys are probably correct about it being under gassed. I’ve had the bolt come forward on the next round in the mag and scrape the brass. So I may not be getting full backwards movement of the bolt.

I want to put my GoPro on the ejection port and record some slo-motion video to confirm.

As for BCA uppers, I do have a 12.7X42 (.50 Beowulf) and a 1:8 twist 16” 5.56 upper from them and they both run great.

I've never eaten one, but in my younger days I heard them referred to as "The Woodsman's Friend" because in a survival scenario they're slow enough that a person can run them down and club them. No weapons required, and they are edible.
