I'm a HS coach and used to live in a larger city and worked out at the YMCA every morning before school and absolutely LOVED it... I would run 4 miles a day around the indoor track and lift weights and was in the best shape of my life at age 35. THEN i got plantar fasciitis and my back started giving me fits with 2 herniated discs, so I had to cut WAY back, and soon after that, we moved to a smaller town that didn't have a gym and I ended up teaching a zero hour class before school so never got into a morning workout routine...haven't done anything since then and that was 6 years ago. As some of you may know, i also got into knifemaking about that time and that has consumed most of my free time, but it's not exactly an "active" hobby. I'm fatter than I've EVER been and feel like crap a lot of the time, and I know that I need to take better care of myself for my family, i've just been in a rut and not been able to get out of it... so yesterday, i made the choice to join our local gym (that opened and closed right when Covid hit, and is now re-opened) and did my 1st "workout" last night, walking 2 miles on a treadmill. It's not much, but it's a start!! Plan on heading back up there tonight and since today is our last day of school, i'll start waking up and going in the mornings before I go to summer workouts for the kids or out to my knifeshop! Wish me luck!!

I noticed my back quit hurting all of the time when I quit lifting weights. My new policy is not to lift anything heavier than my wife.

I’ve had the plantar fasciitis, it’s very painful. Definitely cuts down on motivation. Good luck on the new routine! I need some motivation myself.

You definitely start to learn why elderly folks always talk about comfortable shoes as you get older!

Good for you getting started back into it!

I did a little exercise and 20 minutes of the "cardio challenge" on the treadmill today...and then made martinis. bang Something tells me I need to cut that last part out.

It's usually not in your feet, it's because of your calves. You can fix it.
Get one of these and go to town on your calf on the painful side. If it
hurts like hell, you are on to something. I had to go so hard on my left
one that it had bruises all over it.

If you pull your toes back toward you to stretch the calves before you get out of bed, it will help. Also, put a golf ball under your arch and basically step on it and roll it around the area of pain that will help as well. Put enough pressure so it's uncomfortable. You need to get into deep tissue to do any good.

I had physical therapy for the plantar fasciitis. Therapist was bragging about a older guy that only needed 2 treatments. After my first treatment, I’m pretty sure the guy that only needed 2 treatments didn’t come back because of the intense pain of the treatments. I made it through 3, that cleared it up. Continued with self treatments at home, rolling hard rubber ball on backside of calves, and under feet. The instructions were “ do it til you can’t take anymore of the pressure, if it doesn’t hurt your not doing it right “.

My physical therapist had me freeze a water bottle and basically stand on it and roll with my foot that hurt, and it HURT... It took a while but was finally able to get over it. Problem was I lost a lot of motivation while I was rehabbing that. Been to the gym everyday sp far and did some walking just trying to get in a routine of making myself GO before I start adding stuff. So far so good! My motivation now is just for me to start feeling better and we have a history of heart conditions in my family so need to be as strong as possible to better my chances if/when it happens. My dad was pretty much a vegetarian and ran everyday of his life and had a massive heartattack a couple years ago. He has since completely recovered to 100% heart function. Cardiologist said most people wouldn't have survived the attack he had and attributed his recovery to his fitness level.
