Got the last gate up today on, what I'm hoping to be, a "slaughter house ". Still have to figure a trigger, since it's almost solid rock on this, the highest part of the ranch. I'm open to suggestions from the experts on here. I have the little short "jump" panel, to the right of the trap door, for trapped deer to get out. I'll only set it when I'm checking it daily, so I'll be there to let fawns out. I'm very proud of the feeder, since I put it together from crap the previous hunters left on the place. Still, it could fail at any minute (6V cheapo). I still need to spray paint "Enter here" on the trap door. grin I won't set it for a few weeks. Have the trail cam set up. Improvements? Fire away. coach

Not sure about a trigger, but if you 6 volt is rechargeable , I have a 6 volt solar panel that you can have.. Never been used.

Thank you for the very generous offer, but I did buy one and put it on. up

The trigger I was planning on was just a stick on the end of the rope (rope tied to bottom of guillotine panel, through a pulley) and the stick stuck in the fence behind the feeder and against some rebar driven in at an angle. There ain't no driving rebar in far enough to hold the weight of the door overnight. I'm thinking two eye bolts through a 2x4 on the fence and the rope tied to a pin (like a tent stake) that goes through the two eyes. They nudge the rope and... "pull the pin!" confused2

I don't have anything intelligent to say regarding the type of trigger, other than that I like to set up a trip wire about 18" above ground level so that small pigs or raccoons don't set it off.

1.
2.

I just use a Hair Pin cotter pin to clip on to cattle panel, use a fairly small diameter one. So there not too much tension on it. Run a rope or small diameter cable from the hair pin cotter to a clevis pin in the drop door, you can add a little grease to make it slide easier. Simple but works well.
I run the cable along the inside panel of the trap, keeps the trip wire out of the way in hopes of getting more hogs in it before they trip it. You want to find an attachment point that the cable can cross some open area and bait on both sides of the trip wire lightly. Corn heavily on the otherside away from the trip wire.

I'd use a T post in the center of that jump panel instead of that short stake.

The system works! Not a sounder, yet, but I think it'll get there. This is at another trap I put on the south end. (OinKer Corral - South grin ) Even though I used 4" goat panels, one piglet got inspired and did a Houdini and squeezed out when I shot it's brother. It was a carnival attraction for a minute, with the Win. 62A .22, but I missed the little booger each time he zigged. roflmao

Well done! You can keep making little adjustments to your "corrals," and eventually get it perfected. Keep us posted, please.
