I have heard from several people I know that they are seeing javelinas in Kent and Fisher counties. A friend of mine saw two cross the highway in front of him close to my place in Southern Stonewall county. I actually found a fresh highway kill just east of Clairmont (Kent county). Not sure I really want them around but being native with no season probably not much I can do about it. Just another mouth to feed in the near future.

Enough of them move in and there may be a season in the near future.

I like having them around. Contrary to popular belief, they can be quite tasty.

FME javelinas are kind of funny about expanding their territory. They tend to stick to one general area once they get established there, at least here in S Texas. Unlike feral pigs which are constantly moving and seen in different areas. We have always had a healthy population of Javelinas here in Ingleside, Tx. Just saw a bunch 2 nights ago leaving work. Very healthy population around Ingleside & Ingleside on The Bay. They are never seen anywhere else around here (same environment/food/water etc), just the little Ingleside region. You've gotta drive SW to the Kingsville area to get back into them again.

They are easy stalking game for kids, and a lot of fun to shoot with a pistol or a bow.

There were bunches on the lease I was on north of Sanderson. Deer don't like them around. They make cool euros and the snarling, open-mouth shoulder mount always creates an impression.

They do make cool Euro's, I've still got a few heads in the freezer I need to do soon.

Nice healthy population here on the ranch. They don't expand very fast due to limited population growth and they don't mature as fast as Feral hogs do, they'll drop one or two a year. I've got one squad that's been getting real friendly with me and only one female in the group had Reds and she only had two . Spotted a sow feral hog last week and she had a dozen or more with her.

Yep! I've eaten them many times. In Mexico and farther south some folks raise them and eat Javalina year round.

About 8-10 years ago, my in-laws had a couple on their lease in Young County. I thought my M-I-L was crazy until I saw the game cam pics for myself. They hung around off an on for 2 seasons and then were never seen again.

This squad come running to the truck every time they see me.

I agree, for their size the Euro mounts look good. But I wouldn't pay much to shoot one.

The Cowboy at our place in Dickens says we have them.

Just how mean can they be?? I was out bird hunting 2 years ago ( W. TX) and crossed into about half a dozen. The leader sort of came toward me and stopped while the rest slowly passed by. I thought he might charge.

I had one show up at the lease that I was on in Stonewall County just North of Double Mountain a couple of years ago. I knew they were unusual in that area so I contacted the game warden to let him know about it. He said it had been about 5 years since any sightings had been reported in that area.

Or ANY dog(s), Javelina absolutely hate them and will attack viciously.

And all too often...the dog when being attacked will come right back to YOU seeking some relief.

I see several groups of 5 to about 8 or 9, plus some road kills, on 285 between Sanderson and Ft. Stockton almost every week. When I was in the BP, I was tracking a group who went through a caliche pit. The pit had a low dike around it. The dike was originally about 3-4 high, but where the trail went it had been beat down quite a bit. So as I am crossing the dike, I notice a cave like opening in it. As soon as I got in front of it a female javalina came to the entrance. It was a stand off. First time I ever heard one clicking their teeth (or whatever it is they do). After a minute or two, I had mad up my mind I was very slowing going to reach for my S&W 586, with the magnum rounds in it and shoot her, before she could charge me. I had just gotten to the strap of the holster when she bolted, brushing up against my left leg. She was quick. I let her go without taking a shot, cuz the trail I was following was fresh enough to catch them. If memory serves there were 5 males in that group.

Pretty mean. We had a bunch on a ranch I hunted near Mathis, TX when I was a kid in mid to late 80's. They will charge. Supposedly hate dogs, and have a bacteria in their mouth that causes a nasty infection. (that's what killed the pup I was talking about). I've never ran into them with dogs and dont want to.

Yes they can be mean, and they can/will shred a dog quick. Those javi teeth don't play.

Pig hunting buddy of mine who is a long time avid pig dogger has lost several dogs to javelinas.
