Don't plan on being able to buy shells for guns anytime soon. -------------- Read the forum ----- everyone has learned their lesson, and when ( IF) shells become available they are going to buy 10 cases instead of the normal 4 boxes. Every gun owner in America has the same thought----- it is possible/likely that shells will be in short supply for years.

I don’t know. I used to buy everything I could when I found it but I am pretty content with what I have. And it IS getting better. Have passed on shells several times now.

I have enough to last me quite a few years. I haven't even been looking for ammo.

But hey we can thank Big Green that you can find .22 LR again. I have 6 bricks just Thurbderbolts, don’t be mad I paid $18 bucks a brick! And left plenty on the shelf at Walmart! And I saw some 30/30 in Bass Pro the other day, haven’t seen those in a long time but I can hunt for the rest of my life on what I’ve got. IT IS GETTING BETTER!

I have seen ammo slowly being available. Was at 2 separate Walmart’s and they had some shotgun shells and some rifle ammo. Like the others I am in good shape.

I have enough to last me 3 lifetimes in every gun I own. I learned from the previous shortages and slowly stocked up every week for years. It's amazing how much you can acquire just by spending 40-50 bucks a week for 8-9 years.

Well, shotgun shells haven't been in near as short supply as centerfire cartridges or rimfire cartridges, so, I'm sure that shells are going to be the first to be plentiful. I really don't think there's gonna be any issue finding shells come 6 months from now. I really don't think there's going to be an issue finding 308 or 9mm 6 months from now either. We've been here before. We've seen the trends. This really isn't anything new. Sorry to rain on your troll parade.

I have to keep a view of this situation every day. I am always hunting for loading components. I'm alright on primers, but could use some more. I'm pretty good on powders, and several come available each week. Brass is hit or miss. Bullets are the biggest problem right now. Word is, it is a raw materials problem i.e. copper and lead. We have been 18 months in this problem. My bet is we are nearing the time when people have finally amassed enough ammo, or loading components that we are going to start seeing ammo as well as loading components slowly becoming more available.
States, including Texas, are passing 2A sanctuary laws. That should also help to calm people down. At least I hope.
Remington up and running again is also a big positive to this situation.

I havent even been past the ammo section of a store since it started. Ive got enough for a while and it will come back. Not going to put up with the crazy to try and get more. Seems like from what im hearing from others it is working its way back to somewhat normal. As it becomes more and more common to find the panic will let up and we will get back to normal.

It's inflation that is going to hit. Chunking a dollar bill on the ground every time you pull the trigger is going to seem cheap.

You’re right , the ones that don’t have a 5 year supply will buy all they can when it becomes available. Including me

You’re right , the ones that don’t have a 5 year supply will buy all they can when it becomes available. Including me As more comes in, those that are in a pinch are going to keep shelves empty. Those who avoided buying until now are going to jump at it when it gets to .$50/rd for 9mm, thus extending the shortage another 6+ months. It will be 2-3 years before we see it back to sane levels, and then we'll be in the midst of another election which could drive it right back up.

I have having lived through several shortages for various Presidential elections and now this, a significant portion of the gun owning population gets surprised and surprised again. They DON'T buy 10 cases because once things loosen up, they need beer and cigarette money. They want a new TV. Maybe they need to get their car fixed. In other words, pretty much everything else will take precedent over ammo once ammo is available again and then they will get caught again.

We have been on a road trip vacation for the last 4 weeks in the RV. Have started in Idaho, then down thru Utah, Nevada, and into Arizona. I made a point to stop at every gun shop I saw, to look for ammo for either my 6MM Rem or 7MM Rem Mag. This is what I was able to get, after shopping about 30 shops. Pretty slim pickings!!

I am a trucker. I drive a lot. The trick is to call the big box places like academy, bass pro, cabelas, etc and ask them if they have ammo. Catch them when the ammo truck delivers. Right now they are getting bigger deliveries. That is how I stocked enough to be comfortable without paying gun show prices. I won’t be buying more until things get better, except for .22 shells because both my daughters are doing 4H smallbore rifle.
Gun shows around here, people are selling 30/30 shells for $6 per cartridge and selling out. I don’t know where they have been getting 30/30 ammo. I have about 200 rounds of it and I won’t sell a single cartridge for any price.
I also got a 30/30 lee loader as soon as they showed up at midway. Seems like it took a good year to get them.

I'm pretty good for a while. About the only thing I'm short of is .44 mag.
Still, it's pretty weird that I have more ammo on my shelves than academy, the gun stores, BPS, etc.

The problem is pretty simple, HOARDING. People are hoarding and/or buying for resale. Go to any gun shop on the delivery date and there is a line, these people go around to each gun shop and by their limits, it's a business. Been to a few gun shops in other states and although the selection was lower than normal there was plenty to choose from. Many gun stores are not putting ammo on the shelves, they are limiting selection, conserving ammo for people who buy guns.

As long as you can sell 30/30 ammo for $6 a cartridge at the gun show, it will not be available. I’m sitting on what I have, and conserving for kid’s 4H and hunting. My airguns have paid for themselves many times over.

I am stocked up on all my calibers. Bought ammo when it was on sale over the last 4or 5 years. Probably have enough to last me for the next 10 years.
