I loaded this up with 35 Gr. of 3f a few days ago with the intention of shooting a hog with it, but the darned rain has sure made things tougher for me. The pistol is a .62 caliber smoothbore and I loaded it with a patched round ball. Hopefully the weather will clear up a little and I can get out and put a hole in one !!

Put fresh priming in the pan. and seal around the frizzen with grease and go hunting. I have hunted with a flinter in the rain dozens
of time without a single misfire!

Tis fun ta shoot... just not very accurate...
Several years back whin couldn't find goex powder for me rifles & pistals.
Bought some of the Se7en (not spelt right) smokeless powder...
The powder used tis volume, not measured, if saying it right..
Got on here & was looking for info on how much ta us...
The New Orleans Ace was my ginnie pig...
Because it's (Se7en)a more modern, powerful mix of powder, it uses less..
Was using the .22 gr for my .44 revolver with a .440 round ball, no patch from me .45 kentucky..
Fun ta shoot, just not acurate...
What kinda accuracy, (range) the 62 cal have...
Twas inta slinger fastdrawing & majority of my guns are western style...
Always wanted one of the dooling (pirate) styles...
Best wish's with the hog hunt, be SAFE...
cheers seen your thread of 800 pretty impressive...
Would jump @ the chance ta help out with the hogs, using the BP guns...
Stay Safe
..
coolpics & thread...

Keep your head held high, & your powder dry...

The smoothbores are a challenge compared to rifled barrels. The pistol's like the one I am using only have a front sight...nothing on the rear....so that also adds to the challenge. I have rifled pistols and have shot groups of 2" at 25 yards occasionally, but with this smoothbore a guy is lucky to get a 10" group sometimes at 25 yards. I am just hoping for a hog getting in close to my stand as I have taken them with pistols as close at maybe 15 yards.

cheers
Old school,
Back in the day of BP ya had ta make that first shot count...
Maitanance : in-line fire once, & 2nd round ya pushen left over
back down the barrel, tougher ta set the ball.
Groves were put down barrel for easier, reloading..
& it improved the accracy...

Best wish's & stay Safe...
cheers cool thread...

I've got a lot of experience with muzzzleloaders...except inlines as I vowed to never own one. The traditional types are a lot of fun and shoot good.

I gave up yesterday after hauling the pistol with me for almost a month. Hogs have been pretty slim around the area I hunt lately and I stopped by a lake and fired the round I had in it. It got cleaned and put up in my safe for a while, until the hogs get active again.
