Future SIL is looking to buy an engagement ring for my daughter. He has no clue where to go or what to buy. I don't either. Any suggestions on where to shop in the North DFW area? His budget is around $8-10K

Fly to NY and get with the brokers. He'll get twice the diamond.

I bought my wife's at Bella Diamanti. It's located in the Trade Center, so you have to make an appointment. Almost everything they do is custom and I was really happy with it. Great value compared to buying at one of the shops with a huge retail store to pay for.

My wife got a one caret diamond ring from her grandmother and had it reset. She eventually passed it on to Cathy to keep it in the family.

Don't buy out of the case, custom or bust.

Jane Rivas - Maroon Diamonds on Arapaho in Dallas - is who I used for three important, high dollar pieces. Unfortunately, I heard she might have retired. Her phone and web site should be easily found. Appointment only. Some diamonds I bought through her, some I bought elsewhere but all were put in pieces that I designed myself and her jeweler made.

Can't kill a man for trying. I was simply trying to push the thread on down the road. That is what friends are all about.

There are online brokers.

Just make sure it a certified diamond GIA, or AGS.

Davenport Diamonds on Inwood I believe. Got a great deal from them about 16 years ago. They are/were a broker, you pick the stone and they have a jeweler that will set it. I got alot more than what I could have afforded from a retailer.

I'm basic and went to Helzberg diamonds.

They had some nice rings there.

And he can get by with a nice ring for Much less than $10k

Funny enough, Costco used to have some nice rings in that price range and even a little more.

Costco Engagement Rings between 5,000 and 10,000

There are some lab created diamonds and other stones that 98% can't tell the difference between them and the real thing by just looking - they are also the fraction of the cost of a diamond.

They're supposed to be just about as durable as a diamond as well. My wife has her "real" stuff that she only wears for special occasions these days. Her "fake" stuff gets more compliments. If only I would have known that 9 years ago I could have saved some $$$$

Handmade vintage inspired in Colorado. Wife loves hers. Lots of styles/designs on here.

It takes a gemologist looking through a microscope to tell the difference. People guess when the diamonds quality exceeds what your likely to be able to afford. If you get man made insist on IGI certification.
