Saw it posted on NFA Reddit and nothing mentioned here. Basic premise is Texas is trying to do with suppressors as other states are doing with marijuana. No NFA requirements for Texas Made Suppressors if they stay in Texas.

Passed the house and senate. Needs to be signed by Abbott and then they are trying to get it to the Supreme Court to solidify the legislation.

Wth, how’d I miss this?

Haven’t saw it until now👀👀👀

A common sense gun law inbound?

If you’re a Tx resident and its made in Tx, buy it and walk out?

I’ve gotta be missing something

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Didn’t think you could make federal laws less restrictive.

Would love one for my 10/22 if this passes. Any ideas on brands to research?

I was just speaking w a buddy about this

That’s what we came up w

We think it’ll boil down to a play on words

If it’s made here, it’ll be made “differently”

Now, smart people will define that so that’s it’ll be defined as something completely different is my guess

They let weed slide...

If this comes to fruition there will be some manufacturers moving and new ones opening guaranteed

They tried this in Kansas several years ago. Ended up with two guys taking a federal plea deal to stay out of prison. Google search Shane Cox and Jeremy Kettler. It's working through appeals, but federal appeals courts so far say that the state law doesn't exempt people from NFA. Wish it weren't the case, would be nice.

Meanwhile there’s literally tons of pot in stores in Colorado...

Maybe millions of pounds when you add all the “legal” states

Selective enforcement at its finest

If this becomes legal here, I’ll load the boat.

Yeah, I'm not sure how this gets past the feds. The problem is it won't be Abbott serving the federal time. It's way past time to get suppressors off of the NFA list and be done with it.

The Texas Legislature can't. This will be decided in the 5th Circuit when the test bunnies get there. I won't be one of them.

if this were to ever pass, it will be just like the ammo shortage

1. No inventory, manufacturers could never keep up. SO, you wait a year anyway
2. Hoarding, if no limits are set, its just who some are

Delays will still occur. But, unlike ammo, there is no hazardous materials to deal with. CNC machinery can crank out parts very quickly. When demand is high, and supply is low, historically Americans created new companies to meet the demand. 100 years ago, government was out of their way. Just like me wanted to build and run a primer manufacturing shop, a ton of red tape. There is way less red tape running lathes, turning down Titanium.

This will unfortunately go nowhere. I think there are four states that offer similar "protections" and have instead let the ATF come in and do what they want.

The difference with this vs marijuana legislation is that the federal government doesn't have much of a stomach for the optics of raiding pot shops. Rounding up illegal suppressor manufacturers though? That's a win in the public's eye.

As I recall Wyoming tried this type thing a couple years back with full auto guns. The theory was that if the guns were made in Wyoming and used by Wyoming residents in Wyoming then the federal govt regulations wouldn't apply since none of the guns would be crossing state lines. The govt then said, "But the steel and such that you will be using to make the guns would be crossing state lines, so fed law is still enforceable."

It has been a while and I am going off memory, so I could very well have that screwed up, but I think that is how the feds would end up still regulating Texas built suppressors too.

Ill wait, I will never get a suppressor till the stamp bs goes away. It may be that I never own one.

Something in the first line gives me some pause though... is there anything good that comes off of reddit?

It’s all a bunch of BS posturing by Abbott. Don’t think for one second the feds would turn an eye.

The feds would try and throw something on the wall to see if it stuck, for sure.

The federales can't let states get too froggy, or they lose control. They ain't about to let that happen.
