I have a 2013 Hustler FastTrack. Engine has 1400 hours on it and I believe it needs rebuilt. It's a kawasaki FR691V. My question is where would be the best place to buy a new engine and how hard is it to swap engines? I use it daily so I'm needing it back ASAP. Thanks for any advice.

If you can change it yourself, google is your friend for a new one... looks $1,500 can get one to your door. I’ve bought stuff from this place before.

Pats Engine

Hardest part would probably be removing/installing the drive pulleys. I had a Hustler, good mower.

Here’s a slight upgrade from your engine, basically same thing with better filtration.

Engine upgrade

Details on the differences

FX691V

Features:
Overhead v-valve
90° V-twin
High performance pressurized lubrication
Electronic spark ignition
Automatic compression release
Rotating grass screen
Dual stage canister air filter <——- Nice to have
Cast-iron cylinder liners <———- Nice to have and longer life. I assume you’re burning oil is why you’re looking to replace.
Metal engine cover
Heavy-duty shift-type starter
Twin barrel, internally vented carburetor with fuel shut-off solenoid

FR691V

Features:
Overhead V-valve
90° V-twin
High performance pressurized lubrication
Electronic spark ignition
Automatic compression release
Internally vented carburetor with fuel shut-off solenoid
Rotating grass screen

Agree with going the Fx route above. The Donaldson filtration system is second to none. I would be willing to bet dirty air is the reason the FR didn’t last. With as many hours as you’re putting on a mower, you can’t go wrong with a commercial unit.

What is doing that makes you believe it needs rebuilt?
If it's low on power. Being a Twin cylinder, it could have a dead cylinder due to wide valve lash, or no spark.
Blowing smoke, it could be a blown head gasket inbetween the push rod galley and cylinder or valve seals.
I know a guy on a small engine repair group who converted air intake systems on his FR, I could probably get instructions from him to you.
