I am new to San Antonio. Just moved here from Louisiana and am Active Duty Air Force. I am looking for a place to deer hunt. Does anyone know a reasonable lease or anything about hunting on camp bullis? I am an avid hunter and bowhunters about 80 days a year in Louisiana and gun hunted about 25 days a year. I am willing to put in work and do what it takes, I am not looking for anything phenomenal but just want to get in the woods this year.

It is going to be very tough to find anything around SA within 2 hours that is not at least $1500/gun for the season and that would likely be the cost of a very average place with either few deer or poor quality deer. Most decent places are going to be $2,500 and up.
There are some nice bucks on Camp Bullis so being that you are military and a bow hunter I would certainly look into that option.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Suggest you contact "Rec. Services" at Ft. Sam Houston for info. Hunted there 25-30 yrs ago. Became more complicated and involved esp. after 911.

I hunted Bullis for a couple of years when I was active duty. Call the Bullis rec center and they will give the details. Spots are by draw only. Bow hunters get one spot for the season. You use your stand and feeder. Gun hunters actually draw daily. At least that's how they did it then. Its cheap and every once in a while someone shoots a nice buck. Leases in Texas are expensive. Going on day hunts is a rip off in my opinion. Paying an outfitter for a hunt is not bad. Good luck

Good luck The rules have changed in the last 4 years or so and you can no longer put a feeder out, or have assigned hunting areas. The lottery system is used to assign permits, and hunting areas have shrunk and there are a ton of rules, but if that's all you've got I guess it's better than nothing. You might check into hunting Ft. Hood which is also an option and larger than Bullis.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
