For us this is very big news and a positive step forward. I know for now it only relates to direct flights from New York and there is often more to it, but none the less we are very excited to read this type of news. It is good news. United has direct flights from New Jersey to Joberg. Booked mine in December and am leaving June 4. There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.

Has anyone tried United Airlines? I have had the best service and experience on South African Airways but would be willing to try a different provider for the right price if the experience was similar or superior.

This will be my first time flying United with a firearm. But yes it appears that they are gun friendly. I will know for sure in two weeks

Has anyone tried United Airlines? I have had the best service and experience on South African Airways but would be willing to try a different provider for the right price if the experience was similar or superior. Didn't South African Airways go completely belly-up during the pandemic? They were great years ago. But, I have sat on the plane, at the gate in Jo'berg, while they got they're "paperwork in order" for 2 hours.

There are some really great prices right now on a couple different carriers. United out of Newark, and Qatar through Doha. With these international flights the prices change constantly and swings can be dramatic. I’m watching to book for next April. I’ve seen round trip FIRST class from DFW to JNB for as low as $3,250. But also seen it as high as $12,000. Usually runs about $4,300-$5,500.

It will be great getting Delta some comp. United hasn't actually gone wheels up on this route yet to date. We'll need to see if United can pull this off and keep rates low(er), especially June-August date frames. BTW, we all know there might only be one ticket at under $800
