So I inherited this old book on the powerful people in Texas in the late 1900’s:

I understand it has some value, so I had it restored. The restorers also said books need to be used, so if anyone who thinks their family might be in it, let me know and I can look up and take pics. He is my great great Grandmother’s write up. She was a handsome woman, don’t you think?

Don't beat yourself up. I have some lady ancestors that look the same. We totally underestimate how hard life was, especially on women.

Cool book!

Neat book.

As to the photos, if anyone is ever around Lowake, check if the community center is being used. They have a collection of photos of some of the first settlers in that area. It was originally a small school. The pictures are on the wall in the "kitchen dining" area. There some there that wil be a shock.

Did they call her Mae? 14 lines into it and her first name isn't listed. They had it going in them there days.

Really cool book for sure.
Neat as heck to read about your family like that.
I read about one of my wife's relatives from the late 1800s that grew up in our area. He was a big time outlaw and his partner was one of John Wesley Hardin's documented kills.
No wonder she is so damn mean! roflmao

One is for sale on Amazon for $500. I believe these 'biographical souvenir' books were the rage of the 1880's and appear in most populated places in the US (states, counties and even city versions). Some were likely vanity works (you paid to get an entry in the book). In more than one western plot the frontmen for the book extorted money to clean up an entry that was unflattering. Now they are sought after by collectors even if not relevant to their family history.
