A new fried chicken joint opened near me. It is called Raising Canes Quality Chicken. Across the road!!!!! Bill, white truck. Guess how long Raising Canes lasted?

I’m a huge fan of Raising Cane’s. They are pricey, but their chicken is fresh and NEVER frozen. With some internet sleuthing a few years ago, I was able to come up with a very close approximation of their signature dipping sauce.
Now when it comes to overpriced and meh, that’s how I feel about Hard 8 Barbeque. Was not impressed and haven't’ been back.

'Posted about Hard 8 a long while back. Silly ordering system and service that, I think, they think would impress people. It doesn't. BUT, it's run by kids, so what do you expect?
Which happens to be, ironically, the impressive part about Raising Cane's - the menu is like 3 choices, no options, so a 16 year old can't mess it up! It has worked so well for the guy that he's doing Restaurant rescue TV and is on the national news. I don't eat there and I've always bitched about teenagers running restaurants, but, this guy has embraced it and made a killing.

Where I hunt deer in Kansas, there is a Chesters Chicken in a gas station/convenience store. During the week the special is 4 tenders and 4 potato wedges for $4. I bet that poor lady fries for 8 hours straight!! Awesome reason to break for lunch.

I have only eaten at the one in The Colony and that was over a year ago. Seems that happens to a lot of places. Walmart was a great employer when Sam Walton was still alive but it went downhill when the sons took over. My mom worked there throughout that time frame and witnessed it firsthand.

Tried Raising Canes 4 or 5 times, not impressed. Would be a whole lot better if they wouldn't serve their food in styrofoam boxes. Doesn't take long at all for the food to steam and get soggy.

I like Raising Canes, could drink the dipping sauce, that is the main reason I like it. Using non frozen chicken I couldnt care less if they froze it. If you eat in the restaurant it does not come in a styrofoam box and I agree is much better that way.

Raising Canes is decent if you eat it fresh in store or very quickly to-go.
With that said - I can't say anything bad about Todd Graves. Big time duck hunter - whole business is named after his duck dog, raised his own capital (oil field and commercial fishing) after being told by banks and investors no way in hell a business premised on chicken fingers only would make it, and gives a ton back to local communities and small businesses. People should strive to do business like him - but you don't hear much about him because he's also a big time conservative (but does a great job of keeping politics out of his business).

As far as chicken strips go, Canes is the best. Pricey, but I can taste the difference in quality. And that Cane's sauce is legit. We always order the 25 piece tailgate to go and the wife makes a salad so at least we have something healthy with all that grease.

Man if you are ever in the Houston/Katy area, there are two places there that blow Raising Canes away big time....and yes sitting down inside Raising Canes is good food! 1) Super Chicken - Houston 2) Slim Chickens - Katy (my favorite). Awesome chicken strips & fries with a huge selection of really good dipping sauces.

The chicken has no seasoning, bland tenders. Best thing there is dipping the bread into the sauce.
Don't tell an Aggie how great Cane's is, unless you want to engage in a dialogue about how the idea was stolen blah blah blah.

Plus they have a pretty damn cool logo.
