I was in the barn, waiting for my step father in law to pull my tractor in, and to make sure he got in and off alright. He’s had a rough battle with diabetes and his legs are not very stable...but he LOVES mowing. I always check the ground around him. He probably wouldn’t see a snake, and with little feeling in his legs, he probably wouldn’t feel it. Looked down and saw this copperhead slither on by and make its way behind a 5 gallon bucket in the barn. Only the second copperhead I’ve seen out here. Last year I saw one in the middle of the property and let it pass on by. Didn’t give this one a hall pass...no snakes allowed in the barn or around the house.

Yup, a biggun.

Yesterday UPS guy dropped off some packages at my home - I was working in the office, but then I noticed his truck hadn't driven off yet, so I went to the front door to see what's up.
He was holding our walking stick, dancing and jumping around, and I'm like WTH? I look down and he's 'wrestling' with a juvenile copperhead on the middle of our porch in front of the front door!
It kept lunging at him, and he would jump back, then try to start pushing it with the stick again.
I jumped out there and thanked him, he said he was just trying to get it away from our front door in case we opened it for the packages. Dang nice UPS guy!
I grabbed the stick from him, and smashed the crap out of it's head after a few tries - that dang juvenile was feisty! but buzzard bait now....

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Stay away from the house and barns and like it in the pasture to live another day.

Beautiful markings on that one. Was that in/around Katy?

Almost looks like a Broadband instead of a Southern but would be out of its normal geographic area.

Cool snake either way. Thanks for sharing that.

This one was in Caldwell county. Definitely saving the skin on this one. 👍

I see. Then not out of the geographic area for a broadband.

Well worth skinning that one and preserving it.

Would make a nice hatband if long enough.

Anyone ate snakes? I heard they are good meat. I knew a guy who put the whole snake in his liquor bottle and did not touch it for couple years.

I eat rattlesnakes when they are big enough. Killed a couple smaller ones by our house last year and after skinning and cooking them, there was not a lot of meat, and therefor not really worth it.
