He's one lucky guy, glad he'll get back to normal.

I fell 16' from a tri pod flat on my back onto cactus and rocks about 20 - 25 years ago. don't know how I didn't break anything. I limped around for a month or two and pooped blood for a couple of weeks but luckily that was it. Should have went to doctor but didn't.

Wow
I'm really glad to hear he will make a full recovery. This could have easily ended much, much worse. The Good Lord was watching out for him no doubt.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Glad he is going to make it and be able to hunt again.

Things can happen in an instant and normally careful people can get hurt, good reminder for us all.

I bought my first bow from a guy that fell out of his stand and broke his neck or back. Over a year later when I bought the bow, he was walking like Frankenstein and said that was a huge improvement from where he started.

So glad he is going to be okay. I hunt with 2 people that have fallen from tall tree stands while working on them. I am at the age now that I am thinking of adding a ground to limb line so that I can be hooked up from the time I leave the ground till I get back down. We use ratchet straps but also have a chain as a backup that has a lag bolt thru it that will keep the stand from falling more than an inch or two.

Very scary situation and one that happens way too often. The Hunter Safety System works well to keep you tied off from bottom to top and the new vests are pretty comfortable. I’m too old to take chances. Glad he’s on the road to recovery.

"Hunter contemplates what he learned from deer stand accident
Nov 5, 2011 "

Glad he survived the fall. 20 ft is very high. Did this happen in 2011?
How is he doing now?

I spent 6 months in a wheelchair, and learning how to walk with a walker. A good attitude is the best medicine and the will to beat that damned chair.

Trivia ... the character in our logo is Uncle Buddy. Uncle Bubby was Lee Walt's grandfather. He was an outdoorsman and hunting mentor to many. Maybe I can get Lee and my other second cousin from Dumas, J.D. Walt ( https://www.seedbed.com/author/jd-walt ) to get on the THF and tell us some Uncle Buddy and Big Island stories.

This is all of us as kids at camp on Big Island. The back row is JD, Lee and JP.

I climbed up into a tower stand that was occupied by a coon. About 15 feet. We enjoyed each other’s company all the way down.

This quote taken from the article speaks volumes...

"Persons injured in tree stand mishaps far outnumber those involved in accidental shootings."

"Some people will never like you because your spirit irritates their demons."

I’m glad he came out ok, 20 feet’s no joke at all.. I fell 30 feet and it took me a year and a half to walk again and I’m still all jacked up. It’s a shame those of us that have had major boo boo’s can’t give everyone a taste of what it’s like to go through a life altering screw up. Accident numbers would be cut down to pretty much zero very quickly.
