On a single hunt / trip ? I’m amazed at some of the prices I see advertised. I’m a cheapie I guess. I spend $3000 a year on a lease + another $1500 or so for other costs. I went on a guided whitetail hunt once and paid $2500 . That’s the most I’ve ever dropped but would definitely consider more for a moose or elk

Most I have spent in a year I guess was about 8k but for that hunted Elk, mule deer and pronghorn plus my lease in Texas and property in Mississippi for whitetails, turkey and hogs. Fun year for sure. Quite a few years it was around 6k and glad I did those before some health issues hit hard.

Spent about $9500 on an Africa trip 10 years back. $4500 for a Kudu, Wildebeest, Impala and Springbuck. $2000 flight. $1700 Taxi. $1300 shipping. Worth every penny. up

I normally try and stick to a budget of $10k/year for hunts and leases. Not including feed.

Africa cost us over $20k before taxidermy, but as mentioned above, worth every cent.

A wise (and also wise-a$$) PH once told me to spend as much on your wife as you do your hunting and you'll always be able to hunt as much as you want and can afford.

Spent $12,000 on my elk hunt on the hill ranch in CO. Retirement present to myself.

Maybe $500 or so when I used to go hunting in Co. or N.M. That was before you had to draw.

We all know you can pay anything from nothing (not common obviously) to hundreds of thousands of dollars (also not the norm) a year on hunts. I am afraid this will turn into a “who swings bigger” contest, though I know that’s not your intended purpose.

As CR said, do your spouse due justice when it comes to evening out your expenses and life will be better( for every $10 on hunts she gets $1.00 😂). Be reasonable on what you can and can’t afford and then reasonable on what you are or are not willing to pay. Some things I can afford but don’t want to pay the price. Some things I simply can’t afford. At the end of the day.....THATS OKAY! I am entitled to nothing.

I have found if you put a little away each month and or sacrifice not paying for certain luxuries each month, you’ll be amazed at the nest egg of money you now have to do with what you wish. Hunts, invest, vacation.... you choose. It’s about what you want/need not what a forum or your buddies will think about it.

2001 Elk hunt in Gila, NM. New rifle, landowner tag, outfitter fee, license, travel expenses. About 10k, never pulled the trigger. I spent less hunting public land in Idaho for 2 consecutive seasons the prior 2 seasons, and harvested 1 elk. That’s just how elk hunting on public land goes. Now only quail hunting lease in S Texas, 4 bird dogs and year round maintenance I’m sure tops that. As long as there’s some birds for the dogs to point it’s all good.

Maybe a couple grand on Wyoming public land pronghorn hunt. Gas, groceries, tags, and a cabin.

Went on 3 guided elk hunts. 2 of the years I scored nice bulls one was 315, the other was a perfect 7X7 scoring 346. Travel, hunt, tips and taxidermy each year was $10K. Hunt it's self was $5K.
Glad I did it lots of great memories and experience.

Your $4500 a year for a lease is what I use to justify $3000-$5000 for a single hunt. I get it, a whole lot of people have a deer lease to have a place in the country to go and be in the peace and quiet. I live on a place like that, and it keeps me plenty busy. I don't have time to also go work on a deer lease. To date, the most I've spent has been $3500 for a pronghorn hunt. I've got a bucket list, and that checked a box.

Wife & I went to Namibia in 2015 and took 7 animals, Kudu, Gemsbok, Hartebeest and several others. I kept close tabs on the trip and wound up a shade over 12K for everything start to finish. I have wanted to go back but just can't make myself do that LONG trip back home.

I did Africa a couple of years ago. I think, altogether, including a week in Capetown and shooting 4 animals, taxi, etc, it was about $10,000 for wife and I.

I’ve done it and can’t see me doing it again. But, don’t regret it.

Tags and hunt, my pronghorn were ~$2300 each plus travel and food, so over 2500 and I consider that cheap. I want to do a good elk hunt in the next two years (22 or 23) and expect to lay out $7-10k all told.

Been to Namibia, SA, and MX a few times. Loved every minute of it and don't even think of what it cost. I got completely out of debt 22 years ago so I could afford to do things like that.

2006 caribou hunt in Northern Quebec. $5,600 for the hunt and another $1,000 in travel/tips. Did my own taxidermy work. Shot 2 bulls with selfbow and wood arrows I built. They scored 358 and 354 P&Y

Nope. Lord Derby would cost twice that. I was looking for a really big Roan. Got him too. 34 inches on each side. Also took Western Hartebeest, Nigerian Bohor Reedbuck, Oribi and Harnessed Bushbuck. Passed on a really good Red Flanked Duiker I should have taken and some huge warthogs.
