I've got fat as a hog this year. I can't seem to make my self work out or eat right. I have some major changes to make. I've to old to be out of shape like I am.
Same. Know I need to do something, but can't get motivated enough. But being old, fat, and hurting all over is getting old...... If you have a chance and are interested I’d recommend reading “The Obesity Code”. Learned a lot of things I never new about how the body works especially regarding weight loss and keeping the weight off. Started my journey on February 1st and am down 50 pounds as of this morning. What is your diet plan?

That is awesome GT keep it up. I've been on my journey to getting back in shape since Jan 1. I've gone from 190 to 156 (I'm 5'7"). Don't get discouraged when you hit your plateau. It will take some time to push through it but this is normal. It's your body's way of recalibrating itself to what it thinks your weight should be. My weight likes to settle at around 170. So I got to 170 really fast and then it took me about 3-4 weeks to push past that and start loosing weight again. I'm at my target weight now and have switched to building lean muscle for better definition. Nutrition is key, stick to whole/natural foods. I don't worry too much about fat, carbs, sugars but I do watch my calorie and sodium intake Try to stay away from processed foods/meats and limit the beer (this is my biggest challenge) and the weight is easy to keep off.
Good luck with your journey!

You will feel so much better when you are done. I'm 42, was 265 two years ago, and 175 today. I can do more push-ups today than when I was in the army. Its great.

255.7 today.
I'm considering a diet pause at calorie maintenance levels when I hit 250 which is a 10% body weight loss. Basically I'd try to ease up my calories and "live at that weight" for a month. Supposedly it has a few benefits. One helping keep the weight off long term since your body is trained on how to come out of a calorie deficit without going back to your old ways (you're off the deficit but still eating with purpose to maintain the weight).
Two and this is major, it gives the skin a chance to catch up with the weight loss which can reduce the amount of loose skin you are left with after 120lb weight loss. And yes I said 120, so far keeping the diet has been so easy that my new "goal" is 160 which is 3 lbs lighter than my lightest adult weight when I got out of basic training at 19.
Three it can help me get and stay jacked, and I want to be lighter but I don't want to be weak, and I want to look good too. Going back to maintenance calories (that's plus 1000 calories a day for me) can give the muscles that boost they need in my weight lifting program every few months. Basically I can tailor my weight lifting program so that my level of effort crescendos into this caloric increase.
Do you guys think I should take diet pauses every 10% of body weight?

LOL, I've been sticking to my diet pretty well but yesterday I just didn't feel like another salad. I decided it was cheat day. I love fried food and I love liver, so I ran into town and picked up a dozen fried chicken livers/fried okra/extra gravy & jalapenos. Man it was good. Now, back to the salad..... Good work Gravy, keep it up!
