Prohibition did not work.

Exactly! And there's your answer! When prohibition was in place we had thousands of people dying from all the crap that was going into home brewed spirits, that's where the term Jake Leg came from. Many more died competing against others for customers as in mob violence. Making it illegal had no impact on those that chose to drink, same goes for gambling. I can go 300 miles in two different directions from where I'm at and can legally sit down and enjoy a game without the worries I mentioned above. I would bet that most of the money going into state line casino's is coming from Texas, Inn of the Mountain God's has a customer base that almost 50% Texans. We're not stopping Texans from gambling, we're just sending them out of state where nobody benefits other than New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Hell I remember when damn near every county out here in West Texas was dry, alcohol flowed through all and again the state received nothing. I history tells us anything about this it's "Give the people what they want".

Let me add that if the state and others are so worried about gambling and it's impact why do they have their own little casino's on every corner in every town in Texas. I'm sorry but there just isn't a legitimate argument to be made by either the state or those who oppose legalized gambling in Texas.

Can't argue with that. I was talking about the juice to the casinos, it’s what prevents the vast majority of gamblers from becoming long-term winners.

Take what you can afford to lose and have a good damn time.
On the occasion you do beat the odds it makes it all that much more fun.

"Take what you can afford to lose and have a good damn time." Sounds so simple. Just like narcotics. If only everyone could be so sensible.

For those that cannot be sensible, that is their problem. I do like playing poker with friends, but Casinos bore me, that's just me.

Naively wrongamundo here. Coming from an ol' ski bum, I get it. This issue is akin to seat belts (no, I cannot explain lack of motorcycle helmets). That law came in to place when all the uncovered claims made at hospitals carried a burden to the county taxpayers who had to pick up the slack and whaalaa, they solved it by making seat belts mandatory. Allow people to force themselves into poverty and your welfare rolls increase, It's pretty simple really. Btw, that just the social safety net side of things as far as casinos go.

Let people make their own mistakes and then have no one else make up the difference. You do not know how much I really wish that were true.

They smoke in all of them.
Another great reason to stay out of there.

Go up to Winstar sometime and just watch people coming and going. It's a show.
Very glamorous.

Hell I don't care if they smoke or not, I don't seemed to be as concerned about other peoples business as you apparently do.

I don't know what you mean by wrongamundo. But I do not think set-belt law vs gambling is a proper comparison. Analysis was done 40 years ago and showed a set-belt law would save a lot of lives. I'm sure the law is not even needed now, most have enough brains you should wear a set-belt if you don't then I have no issue with it, private sector could deal with this fine with higher insurance cost for the dip sticks. If you are addicted to gambling, some people are addicted to milk, like me, I tell me wife to stop buying it, it does not help my low carb diet, but to outlaw milk is just stupid because I have an issue with it.

Ask yourself- Why do they keep creating new lotto tickets that are flashy, in bright, shiny colors, with new, different kitschy names? Here's a hint: It ain't to attract MENSA members. 'Same approach with casinos.

I have only been in one casino in my life and it was to see a Willie/Merle/Kristofferson concert. Think it was at Winstar. Probably half the plates on vehicles in the parking lot were from Texas. Sure was a ton of money leaving the state that night that didnt have to and its probably that way pretty much every night.

I have no desire to gamble in a casino but will buy a lotto ticket if the jackpot gets big enough. Never understood why one form of gambling was illegal while others were not.
