Hi Everybody,

I thought I had something lined up for the fall, but it fell through. I know I'm the umpteenth person to post this, but here we go:

2 (or more if needed) responsible, gainfully-employed, family-oriented hunters (brothers) looking for a lease within two hours of Denton. We are looking for a year-round lease. Primarily concerned with deer, but obviously turkey/ducks/dove are a plus.

Our budget is $2500/hunter. We don't need any amenities; we enjoy roughing it. We have our own feeders/blinds. My kids are young, but I would love the option to bring family along when they are the appropriate age.

I've been told by THF members to appeal to landowner's sensibilities and point out that I'm a special education teacher.

Also throwing out a $1000 finders bonus for signed lease agreement if anyone can point us in the right direction.

I've talked up the locals, written letters, and have many other feelers out there. Hoping we can get something lined up.

Counties of interest: Cooke, Denton, Wise, Grayson, Montague, Archer, Wise, Jack, Clay, Hunt, Fannin, Parker, Collin (will entertain others as well)

Archery-only OK.

Here's a joke:

This guy wakes up one morning to find a gorilla in a tree near his house. He looks in the phone book for a gorilla removal service until he finds one. He gives them a call and a man answers.

"Is it a male or female Gorilla?" the service guy asks.

"Male," the man responds.

"Oh yeah, I can take care of that for you. I'll be right there", says the service guy. An hour later the service guy shows up with a stick, a Chihuahua, a shotgun, and a pair of handcuffs. He then gives the man some instructions: "Now, I'm going to climb this tree and poke the gorilla with the stick until he falls. When he does, the trained Chihuahua will bite the gorilla's testicles off. The gorilla will then cross his hands to protect himself and allow you to put the handcuffs on him."

The man asks, "What's the shotgun for?"

The service guy replies, "If I fall out of the tree before the gorilla, shoot the Chihuahua."

Interesting fact:

The wingspan of a 747 is longer than the distance of the Wright brother's first flight. Actually almost twice as long.

One of my favorite all time lines. Probably cause i use it in real life(too often.)

At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR

Getting onto a lease in NW Texas is a tough task, no doubt about it. The demand is much greater than the available supply as we all know....

Yes, and unfortunately the prices reflect the demand as well. Unfortunately, those in my income bracket may be priced out of the market soon.

Feel very fortunate to have purchased 70 acres in SW Young county back in 2008 in my later 30s when the market was distressed some and got really lucky to have a 1/4 section lease come up in eastern Throckmorton county two years ago that me and another THF'r hunt on, otherwise I'd be in the lease hunt mode too. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for anything out that way for you....

You could always go buy your own place if you don’t like lease costs.

Yes, good timing on the land purchase. Sounds like you have a good setup. I appreciate it!

A Bible verse I return to often:

"I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes. I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!"

Job 19:25-27
