Just went to file a protest on the house tax increase. Last year when Governor Abbott said not to increase property taxes during Covid, they went up 30% on my house. We live in a county in Texas where almost no one is wearing masks. This is what the county appraisal office looks like. I called and talked to a lady, used no foul language nor did I raise my voice and she hung up on me. This is the last day to file a protest. Where is the oversight for these appraisal districts? Even in our little subdivision, the tax increases are not uniform and they are trying to raise me again after a 30% increase last year, on a house that has a lot of problems due to the last remodel being done by a shoddy crew. RANT over.

Legalized theft is all it is. Property taxes are out of control.

Dealing with these people is crazy. They think they are accountable to no one and can set rules however they want. Really, office closed on the last day to file a protest. Bring in some outside help if your people are sick. She also told me no one was sick in the office and they had all tested negative, so WHY closed? Make people wait outside, then let them in with a mask and help your customers, cause after all, that's what we are, CUSTOMERS paying them money and lots of it.

The deadline should be May 15th or 30 days after the notice of assessed value is mailed to you. You should still have time to deliver the protest form to meet the deadline. They don't make things easy.

Now wait just a darn minute..............
I heard an interview this morning, with Don Huffines that he's gonna do away
with property taxes, if he's elected governor.........

You know..... like every other lying politician, in Texas, in the last 50 years....... ....

So this basically means I can not file a protest on my dad's property who is in assisted living unless I complete the form and make it to the post office before it closes today. I will not be able to get it done.

I've visited 5 different county courthouses for work over the last month, all their offices are open. They are also in smaller populated counties.

I ate lunch in the Mt. Vernon square at a burger place and the only person in a mask was the greeter.

So where is the online protest submission page? You fill in your PARCEL ID, which is actually called a PARCEL on all forums, NOT a PARCEL ID, and it takes you to your standard property profile with no further info about filing a protest. Notice the, "If you think you should be eligible to file a protest online but cannot, please contact us here ."

So basically, I can't file a protest on my homestead either. Neither my house, nor my dad's.

I used OConner and Associate to do my protest. Cost one half.of what they save you after you have tried.

That's where they "get you". The property TAXES (i.e, tax rate) is what they are referring to "not increasing". In our county your property TAXES can't go up more than 10% without a special election by the voters. But the Appraisal districts raise your ASSESSED PROPERTY VALUE. So the increase in what you pay is usually a combination of both. Fighting your property taxes amounts to trying to convince them about your property value. And with the market the way it is, good luck.

"Our forums are family friendly. We moderate to promote a PG atmosphere. If you find your posts continually edited or you are regularly contacted by the moderators, the THF may not be the right place for you. There are plenty of 'anything goes' forums and other forms of social media out there to choose from. Don't give yourself a headache by fighting a system that is not what you are looking for in a forum. If you are looking for a little tamer place than the wild world of the Internet, you will probably enjoy this forum"

I believe the 10% thing is the amount you pay in taxes cannot increase more than 10% from one year to the next. They can change the value 100%, but they can only bump what you pay 10% in one year. Someties it takes several years of paying taxes on it to officially realize the burden of the value increase. I also believe that only applies to Homesteaded properties.

Death and takes. That is the only thing about getting old. They can change your tax rate but not the property evaluation.

The property has lots of problems. My dad used a crew that ripped him off. I've been doing repairs since I bought this place in October 2019.

Getting to an online protest form should be simple and easy. Filling out the form should be simple and easy. All you should really have to do is send an email saying you are protesting, then show up with your evidence at the hearing.
