Hi everyone,
I recently discovered the existence of 3" shells for the 28 gauge. Is anyone using these loads, and how are they performing in the field? If you are reloading them, what press are you using?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't think many guns are made with a 3" chamber.

I have 4 - 28 gauge shotguns and all have 3" chambers. I reload 12-20-28-.410 and each has a Ponsness Warren progressive loader. Also, it's in the best interest of a manufacturer to make a gun with 3" chambers to avoid any lawsuits from people that can't read!!

How new are your shotguns? The ammo wasn't common until a few years ago.

I never owned one. You can load the 20 gauge down to that level or up to the lowest level of the 12 gauge.

First I must apologize as my eye sight isn't what it used to be. That's why I am having eye surgery next week!! I just looked at my list of guns without my glasses on and mistook 20's for 28's. In looking at the guns this morning, Three of them are standard chambers and 1 (my newest) is a 3". Again sorry for the confusion.

I just bought a new 28 gauge. One source says the gun has 2 3/4" chambers, another says 3" chambers. I'll find out what I've got on Tuesday when I pick it up. Not that big a deal either way, but the option to use 3" shells would be a plus.

The new shotgun has 2 3/4" chambers, so my interest in the 3 inch 28 gauge loads will have to remain theoretical.

3” in a 28 pretty much does away with its whole purpose, might as well shoot a 20 and save on shells.

3” in a 28 pretty much does away with its whole purpose, might as well shoot a 20 and save on shells. While promo 20 and 21 is much cheaper than the cheapest 28 ammo, quality hunting ammo is only a couple more bucks per box. The 3" loads give those with guns so chambered an option to step up in power if they so desire. I don't really see a down side.

I have heard of a model 21 shotgun but never a 21 gauge.

Oh, it's one better than the 20 gauge! LOL!
I meant 12, of course.

I thought the 28 worked kind of like a back bored .410, more even pattern, shorter shot string, more pellets hitting at one time. The longer shell defies logic unless you are trying to carry a lighter gun that balances better... than a 20 gauge? I don’t know if that even exists.
I got a weatherby SA-08 for my kids in 20 and I love that thing so much I want one for myself. Maybe try it in 28?

To quote Bob Brister a 3" 20 ga shell is an abomination. I can only imagine that a 3" 28 ga is even more so.
And why, today, remember misses?
