Do yall think there will be a steel shot shortage once it starts hitting the shelves in late summer?

I've got plenty to make it through next season but will likely buy 5-6 cases for no other reason I think inflation will be hitting sooner than later with all the money the government has printed.

What say you?

Well, the price of ammo never seems to go down, but how much are you really likely to use over the next year or two?

On a side note the guy I normally do day dove hunts went from $100 to $125 per day/gun. Just another sign to me that inflation is setting in. We won't even talk about lumbar prices and house prices.

I switched to a Benelli M2 20g. and since my wife shoots a 20 as well. I went ahead and ordered a case from Boss. Zach was telling me there is a little shortage now, but by September it may be worse since everyone will start buying shells at the same time. Then it will be hard to get what you need.
Ill keep my boxes of 12g. just in case for back ups!

Never a bad idea to buy ammo when you have the opportunity to get something you use often.

I'm in good shape for ammo now, but when things settle down I'll never be close to being without.

12 and 20 gauge are pretty easy to find right now. The one Im having issues with is finding 28 gauge for dove season. Especially 1 oz. #7.5

I snag it every time I see it. Probably have at least 1,000 rounds if not more. My favorite places to hunt are strictly lead free, I use high velocity steel #2 or #4 shot for squirrels and cottontails there. I prefer 2’s but some places I can’t go bigger than #4 legally. 4’s get the job done though, have killed squirrels a solid 70 steps away with 2 3/4” federal speed steel 4 shot.

Also consider this, right now steel is the last thing to sell when they stock. They are stocking it at the bass pros and cabelas with 10 box limit on standard shot shells. Call them daily to see if they got a truck, head out there when you get off work. You can probably get through the season on one trip to the store.

I have like 9 boxes, I might have to really pick my shots next season.

It looks like kent fast steel went up $2 a box, at least for 12ga 3" 1 1/4oz loads.

They are up a little bit. I paid $17-something a box for the 20 gauge fasteel 2.0 at bass pro fairly recently.

Edit- also pretty near the same price for 12 gauge fasteel 2.0 at academy fairly recently if I remember right

I was able to get 6 boxes at 16.99 of kent fast steel 2.0 12ga 3" 1 1/4 2 weeks ago at cabelas. It looks like cabelas and bass pro just got a shipment in. I was able to get 3 cases priced at 18.99 per box for the same shell. I assume the 6 boxes i got a few weeks ago was priced at 2020 cost and the new stuff is priced at 2021 cost. I'm going to try to get 2-3 more cases this summer. I should be set for a while, then when I need more shells I imagine the cost will be easily $225 a case or more for the same shell.

Around duck season we should see the federal speed steel 100 packs at Walmart. They were around $40-$45 last year, even for $10 markup it’s a good deal. They are good shells

I have 10 or 12 boxes that I will never use. Come closer to the season I will probably trade them out.

I just found a case of Kent fast steal in the garage. I'm like hummm..., what is in that box on the top shelf. The duck gods treated me.

Now if I can get my hands on lead for dove. I got a case for my 16ga, might have to shoot those. I have not shot that gun since probably 2007, and the shells are probably that old too. Last year I should all my old 12g lead shot, probably 10 to 20% did not fire.
